Summary: Perioperative nurses emphasized the importance of adequate information transfer and trust from physicians in pain management, while also pointing out frustrations from surgeons, system, and patient factors as significant contributors to incomplete perioperative pain management and education practices. Nurses often rely on their clinical experience and judgment in patient management and stress the significance of patient education throughout the surgical care pathway for improving overall care.

Summary: This study explores the causes of missed nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of Iranian nurses. The causes were categorized into unfulfilled care, care at improper time, incomplete cares, and incorrect care. The increasing demand for care caused by the pandemic and problems in the work environment has led to nurses' failure to provide complete and correct care.

Summary: Medical prescriptions for post-surgical pain relief are the main source of opioid drugs, which pose high risks of side effects. A novel method of post-surgical analgesia using bio-resorbable PEU films for controlled delivery of non-opioid COX-2 inhibitor has been successfully developed, showing effective pain relief in animal models and potential reduction in opioid prescriptions for pain management.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between lumbar intervertebral motion and changes in lumbar morphology/composition in patients with chronic low-back pain. The results showed that patients with greater intervertebral motion had smaller cross-sectional areas of the multifidus muscle and larger cross-sectional areas of the lumbar erector spinae muscle. Muscle asymmetry was observed at different lumbar vertebral levels, with the greatest translational intervertebral motion occurring at the L3-L4 level and the greatest rotational translation at the L4-L5 level. Associations were found between the morphology of the paraspinal muscles at the adjacent vertebral levels and the increased intervertebral motion at the L3-L4 level. These findings provide a plausible biological reason for the effectiveness of rehabilitating deficient paraspinal muscles in a subset of patients with chronic low-back pain.
