Summary: A novel Gram-negative bacterium, designated as Steroidobacter gossypii sp. nov., was isolated from soil samples collected from a cotton field in Xinjiang, China. Phylogenetic analysis showed that this bacterium is closely related to the genus Steroidobacter, but represents a distinct species with significant differences in genotypic properties compared to other members of the genus. The taxonomic position of this new bacterium was confirmed based on its unique genetic characteristics and it was proposed as a novel species within the genus Steroidobacter.
