Summary: A new strain GC03-9T was isolated from deep-sea sediment of the Indian Ocean and characterized. The isolate belonged to the genus Gramella and showed high sequence similarity to Gramella bathymodioli JCM 33424T and Gramella jeung-doensis KCTC 23123T. The genotypic and phenotypic data supported the proposal of a new species, Gramella oceanisediminis sp. nov., with strain GC03-9T as the type strain.

Summary: In this study, actinomycetes strains KRD168T and KRD185T isolated from sediments collected from the deep Southern Ocean were described as two novel species of the genus Pseudonocardia through polyphasic approach. Genomic analysis allowed for species delimitation, based on average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization. The names Pseudonocardia abyssalis sp. nov. and Pseudonocardia oceani are proposed for these newly identified species.

Summary: This research examines the impact of climate change on the migration behavior of Chagos whales. By analyzing the relationships between whale acoustic presence and environmental factors such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a concentration, El-Nino Southern Oscillation, and Indian Ocean Dipole, the study reveals that whales are arriving earlier and staying longer in certain areas, with an increase in whale songs during periods of higher chlorophyll-a concentration and positive IOD phases. The findings highlight the importance of long-term acoustic monitoring of marine fauna to understand their response to changing environmental conditions.

Summary: The novel bacterium ML27(T) was isolated from oyster homogenate in Rushan, Weihai, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that ML27(T) represents a new genus within a novel family of the order Cardiobacteriales, named Ostreibacterium oceani gen. nov., sp. nov. This suggests the establishment of a new family, Ostreibacteriaceae fam. nov., to accommodate the genus Ostreibacterium.

Summary: A novel bacterial strain, WHS-Z9T, was isolated from a marine sponge collected in Weihai. The strain is motile, short-rod-shaped, and light yellow-pigmented. It has optimal growth conditions at temperatures of 20°C, pH 8.5, and 4% NaCl concentration. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that WHS-Z9T is closely related to Brevibacterium limosum o2T. This study proposes classifying WHS-Z9T as a new species of the genus Brevibacterium, named Brevibacterium spongiae sp. nov.
