Summary: The addition of oxaliplatin to postoperative capecitabine-based chemoradiotherapy did not improve treatment efficacy but increased the risk of severe acute toxic effects. Postoperative capecitabine with radiotherapy plays a fundamental role in the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer.

Summary: This study compared different definitions for upper rectal cancers and found that defining rectal cancer above the anterior peritoneal reflection (APR) may be the optimal way to reduce the need for postoperative adjuvant radiation therapy in stage II/III rectal cancer patients.

Summary: This study analyzed the data of patients with stage III rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma (RMC) and found that RMC is an independent poor prognostic factor. Adjuvant radiotherapy for RMC does not provide any benefit in improving survival outcomes.

Summary: The results of three randomized clinical trials comparing adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) and early salvage radiotherapy (eSRT) for prostate carcinoma were recently published. The findings suggest that early eSRT is as effective and potentially less toxic than ART. Therefore, eSRT should be considered the standard of care. However, ART remains a valid treatment option for patients with high-risk features.

Summary: This study investigates the preferences of Romanian oncologists in prescribing adjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients. The results show a positive correlation between adjuvant chemotherapy and factors such as tumor size greater than 2 cm, lymph node involvement, and perineural invasion. The practice of adjuvant chemotherapy for LARC in Romania mainly follows the guidelines of NCCN and ESMO.

Summary: The study compared three adjuvant treatment regimens for gastric cancer patients and found that adjuvant SOX or SOXRT was effective in prolonging disease-free survival (DFS) compared to S-1 monotherapy. However, there was no significant difference in DFS between SOX and SOXRT, and adverse events were manageable in each treatment arm.

Summary: Patients with breast cancer undergoing radiation therapy may experience reduced lung capacity, but the long-term effects of different radiation techniques are similar. Most patients with normal lung function at baseline maintain normal lung function status 10 years after treatment.

Summary: Adjuvant sandwich chemo-radio-chemotherapy shows promising local and loco-regional control for locally advanced endometrial cancer, but distant failure rate is high. Positive peritoneal cytology is associated with increased risk of recurrence. More systemic treatment strategies may be needed for these patients.

Summary: In the era of modern systemic therapies, radiation therapy may still have value in reducing lymph node basin recurrences in patients with clinically evident melanoma lymph node metastases. Further research is needed to determine if specific patient populations benefit from combination therapy and to optimize indications for radiation therapy following neoadjuvant systemic therapy.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of the neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy regimen on operable stage III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The results showed that patients receiving the combination therapy had a higher rate of pathological complete response and longer survival, indicating the effectiveness of this treatment approach in this patient population.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (ACR) and adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) on recurrence and survival in patients with stage III endometrial cancer after radical surgery. Data from relevant studies were analyzed, and the results showed that ACR significantly reduced the risk of local and total recurrence compared to AC. ACR was also associated with significantly better overall survival, progression-free survival, and disease-free survival.

Summary: The study found an increasing trend in the use of neoadjuvant treatment in patients with rectal cancer, with a potential overuse in upper rectal cancer. Most patients received postoperative treatment, and involvement of CRM in lower third tumors was reduced after neoadjuvant treatment. Patients in stage III and MRcN stage benefited the most.

Summary: Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are heterogeneous populations that suppress tumor-specific T-cell responses and are increased in several hematologic malignancies, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). In CML patients, differences in levels and prognostic significance of MDSCs are evaluated according to clinical status. High levels of peripheral blood granulocytic MDSCs (gMDSCs) are associated with better prognosis, while monocytic MDSCs (mMDSCs) may be related to malignant conditions and poor prognosis.

Summary: Primary graft failure (GF) has a high mortality rate, while the 10-year cumulative incidence of secondary GF is 4.5%, with a median onset of 3 months post-transplant and a 5-year Kaplan-Meier survival of 28.8%. The diagnosis of severe aplastic anemia and use of reduced intensity conditioning were both associated with higher incidence and better survival rates in the secondary GF group.
