Summary: Total body irradiation (TBI) causes critical injuries to highly proliferating tissues like hematopoietic stem cells and intestinal crypt stem cells. Pretreatment with the prebiotic mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) prolongs survival, improves survival rates, alleviates organ damage, and facilitates intestinal recovery in mice exposed to radiation.

Summary: Positive recurrence is established for a single-server queueing system under generalized service intensity conditions, without assuming the existence of a service density distribution function. A certain integral type lower bound is used as a sufficient condition. Positive recurrence implies the existence of the invariant distribution and a guaranteed slow convergence to it in the total variation metric.

Summary: This review discusses the impact of aerobic granular sludge on performance and membrane fouling in combined aerobic granular sludge-membrane bioreactor systems. The research highlights that while aerobic granular sludge technology can mitigate fouling, granule breakage remains a critical issue to be addressed in the AGS-MBR process.

Summary: This paper provides a detailed analysis of assessing content damage, loss, and protection in building contents in performance-based earthquake engineering frameworks. It develops analytical fragility functions and proposes a simplified expression for estimating content fragility parameters. Through a case study and quantitative loss assessment, it demonstrates the effectiveness of restrainers and provides strategies for content risk mitigation.

Summary: This work presents a comprehensive numerical study on the effects of reducing pixel pitch in SWIR InGaAs pixel arrays on dark current, quantum efficiency, and modulation transfer function. The introduction of diffusion control junctions into the pixel sub-architecture is proposed to lower dark current and improve modulation transfer function, with a minor decrease in specific detectivity.

Summary: A study on using the somatostatin analog pasireotide to prevent gastrointestinal toxicity and GVHD after allogeneic HCT did not show significant effects in reducing GI toxicity or GVHD. However, pasireotide may have a protective effect on stool microbiome and local inflammation.

Summary: The study demonstrates the functional properties of the 118-126 region of FGF2 depend on the loop structure, and the peptide derived from this fragment encourages further preclinical investigations.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of NO release, diabetes, and implantation duration on the local tissue microenvironment surrounding implanted sensors. The results showed that sustained NO release can suppress the acute and chronic foreign body response caused by implants, and modulate the mRNA expression of immune signaling molecules and pathways.

Summary: Bone marrow transplantation can induce changes in the gut microbiota, leading to increased cytokine responsiveness of splenocytes. These changes seem to persist and can be transferred to other individuals via co-housing and transplantation of cecum content.

Summary: Total body irradiation is an effective conditioning regimen for high risk or relapsed/refractory leukemia patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Pulmonary toxicity, particularly idiopathic pneumonia syndrome (IPS), remains a common adverse effect, with factors such as TBI regimen, dose rate, and pulmonary shielding influencing the risk. Further study is recommended to better understand and define IPS, as well as explore differences in risk factors between pediatric and adult patients.

Summary: This study reveals the mechanism of selectivity in coupling between serotonin receptors and G proteins. It is found that the length of TM5 and TM6 can act as a macro-switch to determine the receptor's preference for G(s) or G(i) proteins. Additionally, specific residues within TM5 and TM6 function as micro-switches to form specific interactions with G(s) or G(i). These findings extend our understanding of ligand recognition at serotonin receptors.

Summary: Dieulafoy's lesion of the upper GI tract (UDL) hemorrhage has an incidence of 1.6 per 100,000 persons in the United States. Patients with UDL require endoscopic therapeutic intervention were associated with higher rates of mechanical ventilation, hypovolemic shock, and acute kidney injury. UDL is also linked to higher 30-day all-cause mortality and recurrent bleeding-related readmissions.

Summary: Compared to total body irradiation (TBI), total marrow irradiation (TMI) provides better organ protection and reduced toxicity. The study found that TMI planning significantly reduced radiation doses in the lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, and other tissues, while still achieving the prescribed dose. TMI planning also resulted in shorter beam-on time for corpus plans.
