Summary: This study reports a strategy that utilizes amphiphilic amino-acid derivatives with long hydrophobic chains to produce single-crystal imine-linked COFs in aqueous solutions under ambient conditions. The self-assembled micelles act as dynamic barriers to separate monomers in aqueous solution and hydrophobic compartments, thereby regulating the polymerization and crystallization processes. Five different three-dimensional COFs and a two-dimensional COF were obtained as single crystals on the gram scale, with yields of 92% and above.

Summary: Carbohydrates from polysaccharides in natural thermoset Anacardiaceae polymers were analyzed using pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the polysaccharides were metabolized through various pathways, and the specific routes of carbohydrate modification could be used to differentiate different polymers. It was also found that uronic acids in the polysaccharide structure were biochemically converted to aldonic acids, which further produced phenylpropanoid compounds.

Summary: In this study, an accurate isotherm and rigorous kinetic and diffusion models were developed to investigate the adsorption mechanisms of phenol. Dual cross-linked composite beads were prepared using a simple gelation technique. The synthesized beads showed high adsorption capacity and effective diffusion behavior, making them suitable for phenol removal in wastewater treatment.

Summary: In this study, two different modelling approaches, deterministic and stochastic, were developed to model the enzymatic cross-linking of polymer-phenol conjugates. A comprehensive kinetic mechanism was proposed to describe the elementary reactions in the cross-linking process. Numerical solutions of both models were used to calculate various properties such as concentrations of reactive species, gelation onset time, and molecular weights of cross-linkable polymer chains. Experimental measurements validated the accuracy of the models in predicting gelation onset time. Finally, the MC model predictions were compared to Flory's analytical solution.

Summary: This study focuses on the precise quantifications of trace polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) using a novel SPME coating made from Rubrene via Friedel-Crafts reaction. The resulting HCP-Rub coating possesses rich micropores, strong hydrophobicity, and large conjugated structure, making it ideal for efficient enrichment of PAHs. Compared to commercial fibers, the HCP-Rub coated fiber exhibits higher extraction efficiencies for PAHs and enables the establishment of a sensitive analytical method. The method was successfully applied to the determination of trace PAHs in environmental water samples with good recoveries.

Summary: A new magnetic adsorbent combined with UHPLC-MS/MS was proposed for the enrichment and determination of epoxy derivatives in canned foods. The adsorbent showed good extraction performance due to its high density of host-guest recognition functional groups. The method was successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of 13 kinds of epoxy derivatives in various food samples.
