Summary: Exposure to metal-(loid)-s is identified as a key factor in the prevalence of abdominal obesity in rural areas of China. Urinary chromium consistently emerges as the top contributor to abdominal obesity, and the overall effect of mixed metal-(loid)-s is positive. The elevation of apolipoprotein B and systolic blood pressure significantly mediate the association between urinary chromium and the odds of having abdominal obesity.

Summary: A meta-analysis in 2017 summarized the association between abdominal obesity and hip fracture, but no study has examined the dose-response association. In this study, the association between abdominal obesity and different types of bone fractures was investigated through a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis. The results showed a significant positive association between abdominal obesity and risk of vertebral fracture.

Summary: Waist circumference is a significant predictor of adverse outcomes, and this study investigated the correlation between abdominal obesity patterns and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Data from 4467 adults without NAFLD were analyzed, and participants were classified into four groups based on their two-year waist circumference patterns. The results showed that persistent and progressed abdominal obesity were associated with a higher risk of NAFLD in both genders, while maintaining a lean waist circumference was more effective in preventing NAFLD in men.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to review the association between central obesity and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). A total of eleven clinical studies were identified, of which eight discussed the association between physical examination and AAA, and three studies focused on abdominal fat volume (AFV). Seven studies concluded that there was a positive correlation between markers of central obesity and AAA, while three studies found no significant link. A meta-analysis of three studies showed a correlation between central obesity and AAA presence. In conclusion, central obesity plays a role in the risk of AAA, and standardized central obesity markers may be predictors of AAA, while abdominal fat volume is not associated with AAA.

Summary: This study explores the barriers and success factors to implementing school-based obesity interventions. It identifies school system, parental awareness, staff availability, and children's compliance as major barriers, while the role of teachers, nutritional approaches, compliance with healthy school canteen guidelines, and collaboration with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and other agencies as key success factors. The study suggests digitizing the obesity intervention module, strengthening the broader school community's role, and integrating nutrition education with technology to improve implementation.
