Summary: An efficient pavement management system can help engineers and authorities make cost-effective and consistent decisions about pavement maintenance management. HDM-4 is used to predict future outcomes of potential investment decisions regarding road maintenance. This study aims to forecast budget requirements and predict the performance trends of an urban road network using the strategy analysis method of HDM-4. The study reveals the potential application of HDM-4 in pavement management by forecasting budget requirements and assessing the impact of investment alternatives.

Summary: This paper presents a maintenance prioritisation framework for Taiwan's 1268 pedestrian bridges. It aims to standardise their inspection and maintenance, as Taiwan's current bridge management specifications and manuals only apply to its highway and railway bridge infrastructure. The framework assesses the structural safety and serviceability of six pedestrian bridge types by visual inspection and uses weight factors determined by experts to calculate a condition index (PBCI). The application of the framework to five pedestrian bridges in Taoyuan City demonstrated its practicality and value.

Summary: This work studies a maintenance priority indexes-based selective maintenance policy for a complex system with degradation components. The policy is performed during a scheduled break after the system completes the current mission, considering maintenance importance, structure importance, and reliability importance to support the system for the next mission. The objective is to find the optimal maintenance decision subject to cost and time constraints, integrating maintenance quality and economic dependence. The simulated annealing algorithm is used to solve the complicated optimization problem.

Summary: A correct understanding of pavement performance change is crucial for making maintenance decisions. This study develops a predictive model that takes into account the costs of different maintenance works and reflects the continuous usage performance of the pavement. The model, trained on a dataset of five-year maintenance work data in Beijing, significantly improves the prediction accuracy of highway pavement performance using recurrent neural networks. The study demonstrates the effective use of data generated by maintenance units in predicting pavement performance.

Summary: Maintaining urban roads is a basic duty. Traditional maintenance methods are inefficient. This study applied design thinking to establish a performance-based contract model for road maintenance. The model was validated using historical data and expert opinions, and can be used for other infrastructure maintenance management.

Summary: This study proposes a decision-making process for the maintenance of asphalt overlays on concrete bridge decks based on interface conditions evaluated by a non-destructive method. Field data was collected using a vehicle-type automated digital road scanner and statistical analysis was performed to develop a bridge pavement index that reflects the condition of the concrete bridge deck. A decision-making tree was developed to select appropriate rehabilitation methods based on various distress types and seriousness identified from the field data.
