Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting frailty in older adults and the moderating effects of nutritional status on frailty. In malnourished older adults, depression, SPPB scores, and cognitive function were closely related to increasing age. Malnourished older adults are more likely to suffer from physical impairment, lower cognitive function, and frailty.

Summary: Malnutrition is widespread among older adults, and its determinants may differ between countries. This study compared Portuguese and Turkish non-institutionalized older adults regarding nutritional status, sociodemographic, health and anthropometric characteristics. The results showed that Turkish older adults were more likely to be malnourished or at risk, while Portuguese older adults had a higher prevalence of chronic diseases. Better nutritional status was associated with younger age, higher BMI and calf circumference, and the risk factors for malnutrition included being female, older age, chronic diseases, and lower BMI or calf circumference.

Summary: The objective of this study is to assess the nutritional status of older adults attending senior centres and to identify its predictors. Binary logistic regression models showed that older age, worse perception of health status, having or having had depression, and not having or having had respiratory tract problems were independent predictors of malnutrition or malnutrition risk among older adults. Furthermore, a moderate time of attendance at senior centres was associated with a lower probability of malnutrition or risk.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the nutritional status of older adults and examine the incidence of pre-frailty or frailty. The results showed that anorexia, psychological stress, acute disease, and low body mass index are the main risk factors for pre-frailty or frailty in older adults.

Summary: This study found that various sleep-wake-related indicators in older adults were related to their nutritional status. Short or long sleep duration, poor habitual sleep efficiency, the use of hypnotics, and dysfunction in maintaining enthusiasm were associated with an increased risk of undernutrition.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence of sarcopenia, obesity, and sarcopenic obesity in older adults, and the role of nutrition as a mediator in the association between these factors and frailty. The findings showed that sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity were associated with frailty, while obesity itself did not have a direct impact on frailty. Nutritional status was found to be a mediator between age-related muscle loss and frailty.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate body composition and prevalence of osteosarcopenic adiposity (OSA) in nursing home residents (NHR) and to assess their nutritional status. The findings revealed a high prevalence of OSA and poor nutritional status in the NHR population. The study also showed a strong association between osteosarcopenic adiposity and malnutrition/risk of malnutrition in this population.

Summary: This study investigated the association between serum leptin levels and healthcare-associated infections in hospitalized older patients. The results showed that women with lower leptin levels were more likely to experience healthcare-associated infections, and this association may be mediated by nutritional status.
