Self-assembled films of organic dye Chicago Sky Blue 6B (CSB) have been fabricated onto solid substrate by electrostatic alternate adsorption of polycation ploy(allylamine hydrochloride) (IPA H) and CSB. UV Vis absorption spectroscopic studies reveal the successful incorporation of CSB molecules into Layer-by-Layer (LbL) films and consequent formation of aggregates. This view is supported by FTIR spectroscopic studies. Scanning electron microscope picture confirms the formation of nanocrystalline aggregates in the LbL films. About 15 min is required to complete the electrostatic interaction between PAH and CSB molecules in one bilayer LbL film.

Modeling the sediment retention and ecosystem provisioning services in the Kashmir valley, India, Western Himalayas

Gowhar Meraj, Majid Farooq, Suraj Kumar Singh, Md Nazrul Islam, Shruti Kanga

Summary: The sediment yield from mountainous alpine watersheds in the Himalayas impacts the region's flood vulnerability, clean drinking water supplies, and reservoir functioning. Natural vegetation plays a crucial role in sediment retention services, with most areas in the Kashmir valley having low sediment export values despite rugged topography. The study also highlights the importance of ecosystem service provisioning in flood risk reduction and emphasizes the need to consider ecosystem service benefits in policy decisions.

RBECA: A regularized Bi-partitioned entropy component analysis for human face recognition

Arindam Kar, Debapriya Banik, Debotosh Bhattacharjee, Massimo Tistarelli

Summary: This paper presents a novel approach for Human Face Recognition, which regularizes the kernel entropy components and makes the method robust to noise. The method divides the kernel feature space into two partitions and uses a Golden Search minimization function to eliminate the null space. The proposed method achieves high recognition accuracy and outperforms other well-known methods in benchmark databases.

Modeling on microclimatic variation of land surface temperature and vegetation cover at Rangpur City in Bangladesh

Hasnahena, Subaran Chandra Sarker, Sahidul Islam, Zakiur Rahman, Nazrul Islam

Summary: Land surface temperature (LST) and vegetation cover are crucial for studying urban microclimates. Due to rapid urbanization and poor management, vegetation cover in Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) is decreasing, resulting in higher sensible heat. Using satellite imagery and modeling, this study reveals an inverse relationship between LST and vegetation cover in RpCC, and predicts minimal changes in LST and vegetation cover till 2028. However, more forestation is needed to improve urban comfort and protect ecosystems.

Application of latest HEC-RAS version 6 for 2D hydrodynamic modeling through GIS framework: a case study from coastal urban floodplain in India

Arbaaz Aziz Shaikh, Azazkhan Ibrahimkhan Pathan, Sahita Ibopishak Waikhom, Prasit Girish Agnihotri, Md Nazrul Islam, Sudhir Kumar Singh

Summary: Hydrodynamic models are essential in flood management as they help identify flood risk zones. This study used a GIS-integrated 2D hydrodynamic model to evaluate the 2006 flood event and determine the areas of inundation in Surat city. The model accurately simulated the flood and provided valuable information on flood depth, flow velocity, arrival time, and water surface elevation. The findings can assist decision-makers in making timely decisions to minimize casualties and property damage. Additionally, the study can contribute to reducing flood risks in vulnerable areas through effective flood control measures.

A Novel Parameter Adaptive Dual Channel MSPCNN Based Single Image Dehazing for Intelligent Transportation Systems

Geet Sahu, Ayan Seal, Debotosh Bhattacharjee, Robert Frischer, Ondrej Krejcar

Summary: Visibility issues in intelligent transportation systems, particularly in bad weather conditions, have led to major accidents worldwide. The proposed dehazing method utilizes a parameter-adaptive dual-channel modified simplified pulse coupled neural network (PA-DC-MSPCNN) to remove haze from images. By cascading two models and utilizing a fusion technique, the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of qualitative and quantitative performances.

Asish Bera, Mita Nasipuri, Ondrej Krejcar, Debotosh Bhattacharjee

Summary: Human body-pose estimation is a complex problem in computer vision, and recent research has focused on sports, yoga, and dance postures for maintaining health conditions. Deep convolutional neural networks have shown significant improvement in solving human body-pose estimation problems. However, there is currently no benchmark public image dataset available for sports and dance postures classification. To address this, we have proposed two image datasets for sports and dance postures, and our deep model, SYD-Net, has achieved state-of-the-art accuracy on the Yoga-82 dataset.
