Summary: This study found an association between serum calprotectin level and the presence of carotid plaque in patients with PsA. The levels of Ln-calprotectin and PsA disease duration were identified as predictors for CP presence. Further studies are needed to confirm the connection between this pathway and CV events in PsA.

Summary: This study identified the association between traditional cardiovascular risk factors, diseases related factors, body composition, and adipokines with high cardiovascular risk in patients with psoriatic arthritis and non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis. The presence of sarcopenia and any traditional cardiovascular comorbidity were associated with high cardiovascular risk. Non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis patients had a lower chance of having high cardiovascular risk compared to psoriatic arthritis patients. Adipokine levels correlated with body composition but not with high cardiovascular risk. Sarcopenia was found to be an important determinant of high cardiovascular risk, possibly due to ectopic adipose tissue deposition in skeletal muscles. Physical therapy targeting sarcopenia, optimal treatment of traditional cardiovascular risk factors, and adequate disease control may help prevent atherosclerosis in spondyloarthritis.

Summary: This study investigates the association between different definitions of axial involvement and syndesmophytes development in patients with Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). The results show that the probability of developing syndesmophytes is much higher when axial involvement is determined radiographically rather than clinically, particularly in the context of high CRP.

Clinicians should consider cardiovascular risk when prescribing glucocorticoids, and ensure regular monitoring and treatment of blood pressure.

Summary: Women with PsA in a tightly monitored and treated setting have more severe disease than men. This is demonstrated by worse scores for women in both subjective and objective disease activity measures, in addition to women less often reaching the treatment target. Notably, being overweight is associated with higher disease activity in women, but not men.

Summary: Dactylitis in DMARD-naive early psoriatic arthritis signifies a more severe disease phenotype independently associated with increased disease burden, presenting with greater tender and swollen joint counts, C reactive protein levels, and more prevalent ultrasound-detected synovitis and bone erosions.

Summary: This study investigated the link between locus coeruleus (LC) pathology and cerebral microangiopathy in two large neuropathology datasets. The findings suggest that LC pathology is associated with cerebral amyloid angiopathy and arteriolosclerosis, indicating a potential role of LC degeneration in the pathways relating vascular pathology to Alzheimer's disease.

Summary: Individuals with PsA exhibit adverse body composition characteristics, including higher visceral and ectopic liver fat, lower thigh muscle volume, and a greater propensity for cardiometabolic disease compared to matched controls. These findings suggest a need for focused weight management in PsA to reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study successfully developed a predictive model based on ultrasound variables to screen patients with psoriasis at high risk of progressing to psoriatic arthritis. The model showed great accuracy and generalizability through internal and external validation. Clinicians are recommended to use ultrasound screening for patients with psoriasis in routine clinical practice to identify those at high risk of transitioning to psoriatic arthritis.

Summary: This study found that elevated levels of inflammatory molecules in the blood of psoriatic patients were significantly associated with the presence of the disease, and there was an increased tendency towards thrombus formation. Scanning electron microscopy showed that fibrin clots in psoriatic individuals were denser with larger fiber diameter. This suggests that the hypercoagulability in psoriasis may contribute to the increased risk of cardiovascular comorbidities.

Summary: PsA is characterized by a high prevalence of cardiovascular comorbidities, with obesity being a significant risk factor. Systemic therapies reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events, while weight loss treatment shows significant improvement in disease activity for PsA patients. Novel strategies focused on multimorbidity approach are necessary for better addressing comorbidities and improving clinical outcomes.

Summary: The STRC gene, located on chromosome 15q15.3, is one of the genetic causes of autosomal recessive mild-to-moderate sensorineural hearing loss. STRC-associated hearing loss is characterized by a high prevalence of long deletions or copy number variations on chromosome 15q15.3. This study identified 276 cases of STRC-associated hearing loss in Japanese patients, with a prevalence of 2.77%. The information obtained from this study will be valuable for providing appropriate genetic counseling for hearing loss and male infertility in patients with STRC deletions.

Summary: The aim of the study was to propose strategies to improve the initial assessment and follow-up of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in Spain. A survey among expert rheumatologists in Spain was conducted, and a total of 108 strategies were proposed, including assessment of quality of life and disease-impact indices, comorbidities and extra-articular manifestations, laboratory tests, imaging tests, etc. Overall, these strategies are applicable to the entire country and are of significant importance in meeting the needs of PsA patients and ensuring optimal follow-up.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1) as a biomarker of interstitial lung disease (ILD), and to differentiate between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and ILD associated with autoimmune diseases (AD-ILD). The study included a large cohort of ILD patients and healthy controls, and found that ET-1 levels were increased in IPF and AD-ILD patients compared to controls. However, ET-1 levels could not differentiate between IPF and AD-ILD, and were associated with worse lung function in IPF and RA-ILD patients.

Summary: This study investigates the role of serum ANGPTL2 levels in Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) patients and controls. It is found that HS patients have higher serum ANGPTL2 levels compared to controls, and these levels are positively correlated with disease duration and severity. Therefore, ANGPTL2 may serve as a biomarker for HS severity.
