However, more research is needed to determine an appropriate panel of biomarkers for use in saliva or GCF for psoriasis.

Summary: Autoimmune diseases (ADs) affect a significant portion of the population and can cause various clinical symptoms. This review focuses on the delay in diagnosing oral ADs, such as oral lichen planus, oral Pemphigus Vulgaris, mucous membrane pemphigoid, and Sjogren syndrome. The diagnosis of these diseases is often delayed due to the non-specific symptoms and lack of awareness among healthcare professionals. This delay can be attributed to both the healthcare system and the patients themselves.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of diagnostic salivary tests to determine periodontal status. Concentrations of lactoferrin, hemoglobin, and leukocytes were found to be significantly higher in the stimulated and unstimulated saliva in periodontitis patients compared to healthy patients, whereas alkaline phosphatase levels were higher in unstimulated saliva of periodontitis patients. Periodontal biomarker analysis using test strips may provide a rapid and easy tool for distinguishing between periodontitis and healthy patients.

Summary: Salivary markers of oxidative stress are associated with clinical disease indices such as gingival bleeding and dental caries. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) increased in patients with more gingival bleeding and decreased in adolescents with caries. Antioxidants could potentially be used as a preventive and therapeutic measure against oral diseases in the future.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of maternal apical periodontitis on insulin signaling and DNA methylation in the offspring of rats. The findings suggest that maternal apical periodontitis in four teeth can impair insulin signaling in the skeletal muscle of adult male offspring. This highlights the importance of maintaining maternal oral health to prevent diseases in the adult offspring.
