Summary: This study examines the effectiveness of controlled physical activities in early refeeding for patients with severe anorexia nervosa and finds that engaging in physical activities during hospitalization in a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) department does not compromise the efficiency of intensive refeeding.

Summary: Alterations in the gut microbiome and fecal metabolites were found in anorexia nervosa (AN), with differences seen between those with restricting AN (ANR) and binge-purging AN (ANBP) types. ANBP patients showed significant differences in microbial abundances and metabolites compared to ANR patients. Despite small sample size, this study confirms the occurrence of distinct gut dysbiosis in ANR and ANBP, showcasing different connections between gut microorganisms and fecal metabolites in the two AN types.

Summary: The efficacy of a novel body-related attentional bias modification task (ABMT), combining virtual reality and eye tracking, was assessed in anorexia nervosa (AN) patients. The findings showed that ABMT significantly reduced attentional bias towards weight-related body areas and decreased body dissatisfaction levels in these patients. These results have important clinical implications for the treatment of AN.

Summary: The length of telomeres in anorexia nervosa (AN) patients is shorter and does not recover after inpatient treatment. Patients with the restricting type of AN have longer telomeres compared to those with the binge/purge type. Age is the only factor associated with telomere shortening.

Summary: The vegetarian diet has gained popularity in recent years, leading to an increase in related research. This review examines studies published between 2000 and 2022 that explore the relationship between vegetarianism, weight, and eating disorders. Descriptive studies find that vegetarians have a lower BMI, and intervention studies demonstrate the effectiveness of a vegetarian diet for weight loss. However, the association between vegetarianism and eating disorders is more varied and depends on the samples and dimensions studied. The heterogeneity of findings is discussed in light of methodological limitations, providing directions for future research.

Summary: The study compared the serum metabolic profiles of female patients with restricting type anorexia nervosa (ANR) to healthy female controls, revealing lower amino acid levels and higher uremic toxins levels in the patients. Serum PCS levels were positively correlated with specific gut microbes in ANR patients. These findings suggest a potential role of gut microbes in the increased uremic toxins levels in ANR patients.

Summary: The study found that the presence of depressive or anxiety comorbidities in patients with anorexia nervosa leads to more severe clinical conditions, especially when the comorbidities exist before the onset of anorexia nervosa. Patients with depressive or anxiety comorbidities show poorer quality of life and more severe eating symptoms.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the BMI course trend between different medications and timepoints in order to improve the treatment of anorexia nervosa. The results showed that antidepressants and antipsychotics significantly increased the BMI of patients during treatment. Additionally, medication adherence and selecting appropriate medications are also crucial for treatment outcomes.

Summary: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is commonly accompanied by depression, anxiety, and socioemotional dysfunction. However, the relationship between oxytocin and psychopathology in individuals with primarily food restriction (AN/AtypAN-R) or restriction plus binge/purge behaviors (AN/AtypAN-BP) has not been explored, which is crucial for understanding the neurobiology of different AN presentations.

Summary: Genetic correlations indicate a coexisting genetic predisposition to low leptin levels and risk for anorexia nervosa. Mendelian randomization analyses suggest a causal effect of lower leptin levels on a higher risk of AN, especially in females. However, there is no clear causal effect of AN on leptin levels. These findings imply that low endogenous leptin synthesis may be a risk factor for developing AN, pending confirmation in larger GWAS datasets.

Summary: Combat sports athletes exhibit differences in body weight, body composition, and adiposity. This study found that adiposity levels can influence the agreement between different methods used to estimate body fat. However, the agreement between methods and body fat percentage was not affected by adiposity. Anthropometry was the most accurate method.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of rotation on the reception performance of high-performance male volleyball teams in relation to the reception zone. The findings indicate that rotation affects the distribution of serves, and there is a significant relationship and interaction between the rotation of the team and the reception area. The reception performance varies depending on the rotation of the equipment, the reception area, and the interaction between both variables.
