GPER and Testicular Germ Cell Cancer

Nicolas Chevalier, Charlotte Hinault, Stephan Clavel, Rachel Paul-Bellon, Patrick Fenichel

Summary: GPER/GPR30, a novel estrogen-binding protein structurally distinct from classic estrogen receptors, is involved in male germ cell proliferation in testicular germ cell cancers. Overexpression of GPER/GPR30 in seminomas, potentially linked to genetic variations, suggests it as a therapeutic target.

The Adipose Tissue at the Crosstalk Between EDCs and Cancer Development

Emma Bokobza, Charlotte Hinault, Victor Tiroille, Stephan Clavel, Frederic Bost, Nicolas Chevalier

Summary: Obesity is a significant public health concern associated with increased risk of various cancers, including gastrointestinal tract cancers and hormone-dependent cancers. Adipose tissue plays a crucial role in this process, as it is considered a major internal source of endocrine disrupting chemicals that can impact hormonal balance and cell proliferation.

Summary: Obesity is a multifactorial disease caused by genetic and environmental factors. Overeating and lack of exercise are common causes, but environmental substances known as obesogens can also disrupt the balance of energy intake and expenditure, increasing the risk of obesity. Obesogens primarily affect the development and function of adipose tissue, liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, and brain, altering the control of metabolism. The most sensitive period for obesogen exposure is in utero and early childhood, which may lead to changes in gene expression that can be transmitted to future generations.

Regulatory and academic studies to derive reference values for human health: The case of bisphenol S

Claire Beausoleil, Brigitte Le Magueresse-Battistoni, Catherine Viguie, Sylvie Babajko, Marie-Chantal Canivenc-Lavier, Nicolas Chevalier, Claude Emond, Rene Habert, Nicole Picard-Hagen, Sakina Mhaouty-Kodja

Summary: The study compared the similarities between BPS and BPA, revealing potential adverse effects of BPS on human health at lower doses. Inconsistencies in toxicity were found between academic and regulatory studies for BPS, suggesting the need to establish human reference values for exposure to BPS based on academic findings.

Low Doses of PFOA Promote Prostate and Breast Cancer Cells Growth through Different Pathways

Aurelie Charazac, Charlotte Hinault, Bastien Dolfi, Solene Hautier, Celia Deconde Le Butor, Frederic Bost, Nicolas Chevalier

Summary: Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDCs) are compounds found in everyday products that can disrupt hormonal effects and have adverse health effects. This study found that four specific EDCs promoted the proliferation of cancer cell lines from hormone-sensitive organs (prostate and breast), with PFOA and PCB153 showing this effect at very low concentrations (10(-12) M).

Critical Overview on Endocrine Disruptors in Diabetes Mellitus

Charlotte Hinault, Philippe Caroli-Bosc, Frederic Bost, Nicolas Chevalier

Summary: Diabetes mellitus is a significant global health problem, impacting individuals and economies. The chronic hyperglycemia associated with diabetes leads to severe complications, including retinopathy, kidney failure, and cardiovascular diseases. While genetic factors and environmental factors like sedentary lifestyles, overweight, and obesity contribute to the development of diabetes, there is growing evidence suggesting the role of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the pathophysiology of diabetes and metabolic disorders. This narrative review critically examines the impact of EDCs on our endocrine system and their link to diabetes.
