Summary: The study aimed to explore the sonographic features of follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and differentiate it from follicular thyroid adenoma (FTA). Results showed that an interrupted halo and satellite nodule(s) with or without halo ring are specific sonographic features for FTC. Sonography could play a role in distinguishing FTC from FTA.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility and value of using deep learning based on grayscale ultrasonography to differentiate atypical and typical medullary thyroid carcinoma from follicular thyroid adenoma. The results show that the ResNet-34 model has higher diagnostic ability compared to the junior sonographer, and successfully identifies a significant number of atypical MTC cases.

Summary: This study evaluated the accumulation of lipid droplets and the expression of adipophilin in follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) cells. It was found that FTC cells had abundant lipid droplets and adipophilin expression, while follicular thyroid adenoma (FTA) had less. Therefore, assessing adipophilin expression can help differentiate FTC from FTA in surgical specimens.

Summary: This study analyzed molecular differences between follicular thyroid adenomas with malignant spectroscopic profiles and those with benign Raman spectra. Results showed expression of malignancy-associated proteins in malignant clustered adenomas, with one example exhibiting a TSHR mutation. This suggests the potential predictive value of spectroscopic assessment in recognizing characteristics associated with tumor progression in follicular thyroid neoplasms.

Summary: Mutations of the TP53 gene are common in thyroid anaplastic carcinomas and can also be found in benign adenomas. Our study found that thyroid nodules with TP53 mutations either alone or in combination with other alterations may represent precursors for well-differentiated cancers, including anaplastic carcinomas.

Summary: Using unsupervised machine learning, this study identified three subtypes of thyroid neoplasms based on DNA methylation patterns, which were strongly associated with histological diagnosis and genomic drivers. These findings provide a robust background for the classification of thyroid tumors based on methylation patterns.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the potential value of Ki-67 as an adjunct tool for distinguishing between follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and adenoma (FTA) and predicting prognosis. The findings suggest that the Ki-67 labeling index can be used to separate FTC from FTA and identify high-risk FTCs. This marker has the potential to be beneficial in the histopathological assessment of follicular thyroid tumors if reproduced in international series.

Summary: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a common malignant tumor in the head and neck region, often detected late with poor prognosis and survival rate. The growth-related oncogene alpha (Gro alpha) is highly expressed in SCC and associated with tumor metastasis and invasion. This study shows that Gro alpha promotes epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression in HNSCC through activation of CXCR1/2, suggesting that Gro alpha may play a role in mediating metastasis.

Summary: This study found that eight MMPs were differentially expressed in PC and adjacent tissue, with four of them correlated with pathological stages and higher expression associated with poor prognosis in PC patients. Additionally, ten transcription factors were identified to be associated with the up-regulation of selected MMPs, along with a drug targeting these MMPs. The selected MMPs play a significant role in the early diagnosis and prognosis of PC.

Summary: The study found a small but statistically significant increase in thyroid tumors in rats and mice chronically exposed to EA vapors, but most of these tumors were benign. However, results from chronic studies did not support a genotoxic/mutagenic potential for EA, suggesting that the association between EA exposure and thyroid neoplasia may be a chance observation. Due to species-specific physiological differences, the relevance of findings in rodents to human health is questionable.

Summary: The study revealed changes in trace elements in thyroid disease patients and suggested that certain element ratios could serve as blood markers for disease discrimination. Significant differences in the levels of certain elements in pathological blood samples compared to control samples were found, indicating the potential for new circulating screening markers.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate routine preoperative Calcitonin (Ctn) measurements and their efficacy in predicting medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). The study found that routine Ctn testing is a reliable predictor for MTC, allowing for earlier thyroidectomy and better prognosis. The study also suggests monitoring patients with Ctn levels above specific thresholds and considering thyroid surgery based on Ctn level changes and ultrasound results.
