Summary: In this study, pH-responsive bufadienolides nanocrystals decorated by chitosan quaternary ammonium salt (HE BU NCs) were successfully constructed to improve the bioavailability, release characteristics, and intestinal transport ability of bufadienolides. In vitro studies showed that HE BU NCs could improve the internalization of bufadienolides, induce apoptosis, decrease mitochondrial membrane potential, and increase ROS levels in tumor cells. In vivo experiments demonstrated that HE BU NCs effectively targeted intestinal sites, increased retention time, and exerted antitumor activity through Caspase-3 and Bax/Bcl-2 ratio pathways.

Summary: A multi-functional hydrogel with antibacterial properties, hemostasis, and the ability to promote wound healing is proposed in this study. The hydrogel is composed of surfactin, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and methacrylic anhydride grafted quaternary ammonium chitosan. The formation of the hydrogel is triggered by ultraviolet-initiated polymerization, while surfactin is complexed with the hydrogel through hydrogen bonding interaction. This adhesive hydrogel with shape adaptability can cover the wound surface, simulate the microenvironment of the primary extracellular matrix, and promote collagen deposition and inflammatory factor transformation.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
