Summary: Red algal polysaccharide, such as GNP from Gelidium crinale, has various structural characteristics and bioactivities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-tumor activities. This study investigated the inhibitory effect of GNP on atherosclerosis and its mechanism of action, revealing its ability to regulate signaling pathways and reduce cell adhesion and oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor expression. Furthermore, GNP showed competitive binding to ACE and reduced blood pressure in hypertensive rats. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the potential use of GNP in preventing and treating atherosclerosis.

Summary: In this study, a novel polysaccharide (CPP-1) was isolated from Chlorella pyrenoidosa and sulfated, showing potential as an anticoagulant. CPP-1 was mainly composed of D-mannopyranose, 3-O-methylated D-mannopyranose, and D-galactopyranose. The sulfated Chlorella mannogalactan (SCM) derived from CPP-1 demonstrated strong anticoagulant activity, making it a possible safer alternative to heparin-like drugs.

Summary: The underlying mechanisms of the immunomodulatory effect of sulfated modifications of Chinese yam polysaccharide (S-CYP) were studied using RNA sequencing and a co-culture model. The results showed that S-CYP can activate and mature RAW264.7 cells and indirectly affect their immune function by increasing cytokine secretion. These findings provide a theoretical basis for exploring S-CYP as an immunomodulatory agent.

Summary: Highly substituted sulfated alfalfa polysaccharides (SAP) were successfully synthesized via the chlorosulfonic acid (CSA)-pyridine (Pyr) method. The optimized reaction conditions resulted in a maximum degree of substitution of 0.724. SAP exhibited improved water solubility and biological activity, showing better antioxidant activity, antibacterial ability, and promotion of intestinal epithelial cells' viability compared to non-sulfated alfalfa polysaccharides (AP). Furthermore, SAP showed potential in inhibiting obesity.

Summary: Coconut peel polysaccharide (CPP) was extracted from coconut peel using boiling water extraction. The molecular weight and monosaccharide component of CPP were analyzed, and its antioxidant activity and anti HepG2 proliferation activity were evaluated. The results showed that CPP had a molecular weight of 1.20 x 10(5) Da and consisted mainly of arabinose (Ara), galactose (Gal), glucose (Glu), xylose (Xyl), and galacturonic acid (Gal-A). CPP exhibited scavenging effects on ABTS, DPPH, and O-2(-•) radicals, and showed significant anti-proliferation activity against HepG2 cells.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.
