Schiff bases of 2-hydroxybenzophenone (HBP) (C6H5)(2-HOC6H4)C=N(CH2)(n)EAr (L1/L2: E = S, Ar = Ph, n = 2/3; L3/L4: E = Se, Ar = Ph, n = 2/3; L5/L6: E = Te, Ar = 4-MeOC6H4, n = 2/3) and their complexes [PdCl(L-H)] (L = L1-L6; 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11), [PtCl(L3-H/L5-H)] (4/8), [PtCl2(L4/L6)(2)] (6/12), [(p-cymene)RuCl(L5/L6)]Cl (9/13) and [HgBr2(L5/L6)(2)] (10/14) have been synthesized and characterized by proton, carbon-13, selenium-77 and tellurium-125 NMR, IR and mass spectra. Single crystal structures of L1, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 were solved. The Pd-E bond distances (angstrom): 2.2563(6) (E = S), 2.3575(6)-2.392(2) (E = Se); 2.5117(5)-2.5198(5) (E = Te) are near the lower end of the bond length range known for them. The Pt-Se bond length, 2.3470(8) angstrom, is also closer to the short values reported so far. The Heck and Suzuki reaction were carried out using complexes 1, 3, 5 and 7 as catalysts under aerobic condition. The percentage yields for trans product in Heck reaction were found upto 85%. Symmetrically Direct Coupled Stacked Broadband Microstrip Antenna

K. K Bindu, S. Rajbala, Girish Kumar, Anil K. Singh

Summary: This paper proposes a technique using directly coupled stacked patches to increase impedance bandwidth and reduce cross-polarization. By employing metallic shorting posts between the metallic patches, the stacked configurations achieve a bandwidth of 25.8% and a gain of 8.8 dBi with low cross-polarization levels. A symmetrically direct-coupled stacked design further suppresses cross-polar components, resulting in a bandwidth of 26.1% and a gain of 9.3 dBi.

Palladium(II)-complexes of bi- and tri-dentate phosphine ligands: precursor for palladium-phosphorous nanoparticles and activity towards Suzuki-Miyaura coupling

Gyandshwar Kumar Rao, Anirban Dutta, Nisha Yadav, Preeti Oswal, Arun Kumar, Ajai K. Singh

Summary: Crystalline Pd7P3 and Pd3P0.8 nanoparticles were obtained by thermolysis of palladium(II)-complexes of two different ligands. These nanoparticles showed lower catalytic activity than the parent complexes in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions. The catalysis involved the formation of Pd-NPs associated with ligands or their fragments. Three phase tests revealed that both the complexes and the nanoparticles had both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic processes.

Gelation characteristics of partially purified myofibrillar proteins extracted from commercially harvested Indian mackerel and threadfin bream

Avtar Singh, Umesh Patil, Ajay Mittal, Prabjeet Singh, Anuj Tyagi, Soottawat Benjakul

Summary: The gelling behaviors of partially purified myofibrillar proteins (PPMP) extracted from Indian mackerel (IM) and threadfin bream (TB) were compared at different heating temperatures. The results demonstrated that IM-MP exhibited lower turbidity, surface hydrophobicity, and disulfide bond content compared to TB-MP. The amino acid profile showed no significant difference between the two species, except for lysine and glutamine. Structural analysis confirmed these differences, and the transmission analysis revealed lower aggregation and crosslinking ability of IM-MP. Therefore, the gelling behavior of IM-MP was poorer compared to TB-MP.

Influence of Epigallocatechin Gallate on Quality of Cooked Harpiosquillid Mantis Shrimp (Harpiosquilla raphidea) Subjected to Multiple Freeze-Thaw Cycles

Wattana Temdee, Avtar Singh, Hui Hong, Bin Zhang, Ahmet Faruk Yesilsu, Soottawat Benjakul

Summary: The effects of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) at 200 or 400 ppm on the quality changes of cooked Harpiosquillid mantis shrimp (Harpiosquilla raphidea) (CHMS) meat subjected to varying freeze-thaw cycles (F-T-C; 0, 1, 3, and 5) were studied. With increasing F-T-C, the CHMS meat deteriorated to a higher extent, indicated by increased exudate loss, tougher texture, and higher microbial counts. The addition of EGCG could dose-dependently retard these changes, as well as prevent microbial growth and lipid oxidation. The alterations in disulfide bond content and surface hydrophobicity of CHMS added with EGCG were more pronounced with higher EGCG concentration.

Indirect photolysis of cysteine and thiourea in the presence of metal ions in the aquatic environment

Angela Lis, Viorica Gladchi, Gheorghe Duca, Sergey Travin

Summary: This work presents studies on the photochemical transformations of TU and Cys with the addition of Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions. The results show that the oxidation rate of the thiols increases significantly when Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions are added to the system. It has also been found that TU and Cys can form stable complex compounds with the studied metal ions. The oxidation rates of the thiols are found to depend on the radiation intensity and emission spectrum of the irradiation sources.

Synthesis, structure and electrochemical properties of tris (3-phenylpyrazolyl)borato zinc(II) adducts with o-semiquinonate ligands

Summary: The structure and electrochemical properties of zinc(II) complexes with a face-capping ligand have been investigated, revealing the effect of the ligand on bound semiquinonate (SQ) radicals. The substitution pattern of the SQ ring plays a crucial role in determining the fate of the bound SQ radicals. Additionally, the protective pocket formed by the ligand's phenyl substituents is unable to prevent decomposition of SQ radicals with minimal steric bulk, suggesting that substitution of the SQ ring is the main contributor to their stabilization.

Geometric control of Cu, Ni and Pd complexes in the solid state via intramolecular H-bonding interactions

Ankita Puri, Allison Mcaninch, Sheng Shu, Khashayar Rajabimoghadam, Maxime A. Siegler, Marcel Swart, Isaac Garcia-Bosch

Summary: In this article, the synthesis and characterization of copper, nickel, and palladium complexes bound by bidentate ligands derived from ortho-phenylenediamine are described. The complexes contain tunable H-bond donors and their crystal structures reveal intramolecular H-bonding interactions between the ligand scaffolds. Variations in the coordination sphere led to the isolation of the complexes in square-planar or twisted pseudo-tetrahedral geometries. Structural analysis showed that intramolecular H-bonding interactions can be altered by disrupting the bonds between countercations, solvent of crystallization, and ligand scaffold, resulting in changes in the geometry of the complexes. DFT calculations confirmed that Cu complexes prefer twisted geometries while Ni and Pd complexes favor square-planar geometries.
