Crystalline boron has been prepared via high-pressure, high-temperature pyrolysis of decaborane, B10H14. We obtained alpha-tetragonal boron crystals at a pressure of 8-9 GPa and temperatures in the range 1100-1600 degrees C and beta-rhombohedral boron intergrowths at 3 GPa and 1200 degrees C.
