Summary: This study prepared amorphous As33S67 thin films by both solution processing and thermal evaporation, and doped them with silver ions. The results showed that the doped films had good optical properties, such as decreased optical bandgap and increased refractive index. The doping mechanisms of the films prepared by solution processing and thermal evaporation were significantly different.

Summary: The recognition features of glycine with cucurbit[5]uril and cucurbit[6]uril were investigated in aqueous solution and solid state using H-1 NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Different binding modes were observed, with glycine showing exo binding with Q[5] and endo or dual binding with Q[6. X-ray crystallography showed the formation of exclusion complex with Q[5] and inclusion complex with Q[6], with hydrogen bondings observed between encapsulated glycine molecules in Q[6].

Summary: This article introduces cucurbit[n]uril supramolecular hydrogels, which are driven by weak intermolecular interactions and exhibit stimuli responsiveness and self-healing properties. The hydrogels are composed of Q[n]-cross-linked small molecules and polymers, and are driven by different forces including outer-surface interaction, host-guest inclusion interaction, and host-guest exclusion interaction. These host-guest interactions enable the hydrogels to spontaneously recover after damage, prolonging their service life. The Q[n]-based supramolecular hydrogel is an adjustable and low-toxicity soft material that can be widely used in biomedicine.

Summary: This study reports the formation of silver nanopetal-Fe3O4 poly-nanocrystals assemblies and their application as active substrates for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). The engineered Fe3O4-Ag architectures exhibit plasmonic properties that offer a rough surface with plenty of hot spots for enhancing electrical fields, making them valuable for ultra-sensitive SERS sensing with magnetically assisted collection. Successful detection of trace amounts of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) down to 10(-10) M in water at room temperature was achieved.

Summary: Silver-based nano-antibiotics are emerging as promising alternatives to traditional antibiotics, with highly monodispersed, ultrasmall polycationic silver nanoclusters showing enhanced antibacterial efficacy against a wide range of pathogens and biofilms, particularly anaerobic bacteria. This novel design strategy demonstrates the potential for developing highly potent nano-antibiotics effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and biofilms while also delaying the development of bacterial resistance.

Summary: The heterogenization of Keggin-structure heteropoly acids (HPAs) on activated carbon modified with metal ions (Cs+, K+ and Ag+) resulted in efficient solid catalysts for biodiesel production. The 35%H6PV3MoW8O40/AC-Ag hybrid catalyst showed high catalytic performance in transesterification of soybean oil, with good recyclability and resistance to impurities. This novel solid catalyst offers an efficient and sustainable approach for biodiesel production, particularly from low-quality oils.

Summary: Nanopesticides have been proposed as a promising strategy for controlling pathogens and delaying the development of resistance. In this study, a new type of nanosilica fungicide was developed and demonstrated to effectively control late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans. The mesoporous silica nanoparticles showed the highest antimicrobial activity, inducing oxidative stress and cell structure damage in the pathogen. This work provides new insights into the antimicrobial mechanism of nanosilica and highlights the potential of nanoparticles as green and efficient nanofungicides for late blight control.

Summary: This study demonstrates the oxidative decomposition of polystyrene (PS) in the gut of superworms and reveals its effect on plastic metabolism. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) were found to be generated extensively in the larva gut, and PS consumption led to a significant increase in ROS. Further investigation suggested that the oxidative depolymerization of PS was caused by the combinatorial effect of ROS and extracellular oxidases of gut microbes. This work provides new insights into the underlying biochemical mechanisms of plastic degradation in the gut.

Summary: In this study, viable heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts (NCS) are synthesized by in situ compounding nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) with schwertmannite (SCH). The NCS catalysts exhibit greatly enhanced capacity for chlortetracycline (CTC) degradation with a remarkable efficiency of 95.12% at a wide pH range (3.0-7.0). The study also identifies the main active species in the degradation process and proposes a possible degradation mechanism, while verifying the cytotoxicity of CTC degradation intermediates through co-culturing with E. coli. This research provides a new strategy to overcome the disadvantages of photo-Fenton processes and develop new technologies for advanced water treatment.

Summary: Herein, a facile two-step synthetic pathway was developed to construct compact CdS-CuS heterostructures for syngas production via CO2 photoreduction. The CdS-CuS-2 photocatalyst exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity with a syngas yield of approximately 8446 mu mol g(-1), which was approximately 5-fold higher than that of pristine CdS. Syngas with different proportions (H-2/CO) could be readily produced by adjusting the CdS/CuS ratio in the photocatalysts.
