Variation of the reaction conditions with AgC CR (R = Ph, C6H4OCH3-4, Bu-t), (BuPO3H2)-Bu-t, and AgX (X = NO3, BF4) as starting materials afforded four new silver(I) ethynide complexes incorporating the tert-but ylphosphonate ligand, namely, 3AgC CPh center dot(Ag2BuPO3)-Bu-t center dot(AgBuPO3H)-Bu-t center dot 2AgNO(3) (1), 2AgC CC6H4OCH3-4 center dot(Ag2BuPO3)-Bu-t center dot 2AgNO(3) (2), [{Ag-5(NO3@Ag-18)Ag-5}((BuC)-Bu-t C)(16)((BuPO3)-Bu-t)(4)(H2O)(3)][{Ag-5(NO3@Ag-18)Ag-5} ((BuC)-Bu-t C)(16)((BuPO3)-Bu-t)(4)(H2O)(4)]center dot 3SiF(6)center dot 4.5H(2)O center dot 3.5MeOH (3), and [{Ag-8(Cl@Ag-14)}((BuC)-Bu-t C)(14)((BuPO3)-Bu-t)(2)F-2(H2O)(2)]BF4 center dot 3.5H(2)O (4). Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed that complexes 1 and 2 display different layer-type coordination networks, while 3 and 4 contain high-nuclearity silver(I) composite clusters enclosing nitrate and chloride template ions, respectively, that are supported by (BuPO32-)-Bu-t ligands.

Nestlike Silver(I) Thiolate Clusters with Tunable Emission Color Templated by Heteroanions

Yang-Lin Shen, Jun-Ling Jin, Guang-Xiong Duan, Peng-Yuan Yu, Yun-Peng Xie, Xing Lu

Summary: Four silver thiolate clusters with similar nestlike structures were studied, showing tunable solid-state emissions depending on the templating anions. The color of emissions could be adjusted from green to orange and then to red by changing the template anions, indicating a correlation to charge transfer between the templates and metal atoms. This work contributes to the understanding of the templating role of heteroanions and the relationship between structure and properties.

Copper(I) Alkynyl Clusters with Crystallization-Induced Emission Enhancement

Jun-Jie Fang, Yang-Lin Shen, Zheng Liu, Chen Liu, Yun-Peng Xie, Xing Lu

Summary: Four copper(I) alkynyl complexes with phosphate ligands were synthesized and characterized, showing strong luminescence in the crystalline state compared to the amorphous and solution phases. The enhanced emission was attributed to well-arranged C-H···p and p···p interactions between the ligands. Additionally, some complexes exhibited photocurrent responses upon visible-light illumination.

Stabilizing a non-IPR C2(13333)-C74 cage with Lu2C2/Lu2O: the importance of encaged non-metallic elements

Pengwei Yu, Mengyang Li, Shuaifeng Hu, Changwang Pan, Wangqiang Shen, Kun Guo, Yun-Peng Xie, Lipiao Bao, Rui Zhang, Xing Lu

Summary: The presence of different encaged non-metallic elements leads to significant changes in intramolecular interactions and redox potentials of Lu2C2@C-2(13333)-C-74 and Lu2O@C-2(13333)-C-74, due to their distinct molecular orbital energy levels. The absence of Lu-2@C-2(13333)-C-74, in which the HOMO is mainly delocalized on the internal Lu-Lu bond, accompanied by a smaller HOMO-LUMO gap, suggests that the presence of a non-metallic unit broadens the electrochemical gaps and improves the kinetic stability.

Anion-templated silver thiolated clusters affected by carboxylate ligands

Yu-Han Xia, Xin-Yan Xia, Jun-Jie Fang, Zheng Liu, Yun-Peng Xie, Xing Lu

Summary: Under the guidance of anion templates V10O286- and SO42-, the novelty of cluster assembly can be increased by using different carboxylate ligands. In this work, three anion-templated silver thiolated clusters were synthesized and characterized. The results showed that the addition of different organic shells and the use of different templates can lead to the formation of discrete clusters or clusters with a three-dimensional structure. This study provides important insights into the assembly process and the potential applications of these silver clusters.
