Summary: Nowadays, there are studies on the design and synthesis of new catalysts for olefin oligomerization and polymerization, with non-toxic metals and high catalytic activities. Transition metal complex compounds, such as Fe(II), Cr(III), and Zr(II), that contain pyridine or quinoline ligands have been found to exhibit moderate catalytic activity in ethylene and propylene polymerizations. In this study, a new cobalt(II) complex compound with bis(5-chloroquinolin-8-olato)-bis(pyridine) ligands was synthesized and tested for its catalytic activity in reactions of 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and norbornene oligomerizations. The results showed that the activated bis(5-chloroquinolin-8-olato)-bis(pyridine)-cobalt(II) catalyst can promote the formation of oligomers in nitrogen atmosphere, at atmospheric pressure, and at room temperature, demonstrating moderate catalytic activity in norbornene oligomerization and low catalytic activity in 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol oligomerization.

Summary: The first dicobalt(III) mu(2)-peroxo N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex was reported, showing the ability to be generated from air and cleaved into a Co-III acetate complex upon addition of acetic acid. Experimental and theoretical studies suggest a nucleophilic nature of the dicobalt(III) mu(2)-peroxo complex.

Summary: Commercially available Ni(ii) and Co(ii) complexes act as catalysts for alkene/vinylsilane dehydrogenative silylation and hydrosilylation without external reducing agents. Ni is selective for DS products, while Co yields both HS and DS products, and all complexes efficiently induce silicone-oil crosslinking under a non-inert atmosphere.

Summary: Two novel di- and tetra-nuclear Cu(II) complexes were synthesized and structurally characterized. The molecular structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing the influence of different solvent molecules on the nuclearity of the complexes. DFT calculations and ESP studies were conducted to analyze the molecular orbitals and coordination sites, and Hirshfeld surfaces were used to quantify the weak interactions in the complexes.

Summary: Saturated linkages between heteroatoms support the formation of fully reduced [(Cu(L-N2S2))2Cu2] complexes, which are relevant for the composition of nitrous oxide reductase (N2OR). A newly devised route allows the synthesis of a mixed-valent pentacopper complex [(Cu(L-N2SAr2))3Cu2], which exhibits 3-fold rotational symmetry. The oxidation of this complex results in the formation of a decacopper species with greater mixed valency.

Summary: The reaction between silylamido complexes of Cr(II), Fe(II), and Co(II) with IMes2HF salt resulted in the isolation of corresponding metal complexes. X-ray structural studies revealed that the Cr complex adopted a square planar geometry, while the Fe and Co complexes exhibited distorted tetrahedral geometries. Magnetic susceptibility studies demonstrated that the Cr and Fe complexes were high-spin complexes, while the Co complex had a slightly different spin state.

Summary: In 2019, a unique Fe-II complex with a low-spin ground state was described by our groups. The accessibility of the low-spin state was hindered by slow dynamics of the high-spin to low-spin phase transition. Here, we report the successful control of this spin-crossover process through metal-ion dilutions. The behavior of thermally induced spin-crossover was observed to emerge or be suppressed depending on the radius of the metal ion used for dilution (Ni-II or Zn-II). The reversible photo-switching was confirmed in all mixed-metal complexes where the low-spin state was thermally accessible.
