Summary: Dinuclear d(8) Pt(ii) complexes exhibit photophysical properties determined by the distance between the two Pt(ii) centres, showing either metal-to-ligand-(MLCT) or metal-metal-ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (MMLCT) transitions. The novel dinuclear complexes with 8-hydroxyquinoline as the bridging ligand possess similar photophysics to the mononuclear model chromophore. TD-DFT calculations confirm the mixed LC/MLCT nature of the lowest energy absorption and the limited quantum yields of the (LC)-L-3 photoluminescence for these complexes.

Summary: Theoretical understanding of magneto-structural correlations in dichloro-bridged dicopper(II) complexes can guide the design of magnetic materials having broad-scale applications. Previous reports suggest these correlations are complicated and unclear. Magnetic coupling constants (J(calc)) of variants of a representative {Cu-(mu-Cl)(2)-Cu} complex A were calculated through BS-DFT to clarify possible correlations. The results revealed several trends, including the linear increase of J(calc) with R-0 and tau, and the initial increase and then decrease with alpha. Bridging ligand effects on J(calc) for dicopper(II) complexes were also evaluated through BS-DFT, showing an increase with increasing ligand field strength and a linear relationship between the spin density of the bridging ligand and J(calc).

Summary: We report a new class of four dimeric Co(II) complexes with different coordination geometry of two Co(II) centers and their magnetic study. Interestingly, the two Co(II) centers show two different types of magnetic anisotropy. Ab initio calculations reveal that the six-coordinate Co(II) center possesses a consistently large negative axial zero-field splitting parameter, while the four-coordinate Co(II) center exhibits a range of D values. All the complexes display rare ferromagnetic interaction, and the strength of this interaction decreases as the ligand field on the pseudo-tetrahedral Co(II) center decreases.

Summary: A novel N2O3-donor aldehyde-appended salamo-like ligand H2L has been successfully designed and synthesized, which can be used to prepare two different nuclearity and extraordinary structures of copper complexes by changing the reaction conditions. The structures of these complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. The results showed that complex 1 is a novel non-centrosymmetrical homobinuclear dimeric Cu(II) complex, while complex 2 is a novel homotrinuclear centrosymmetric sandwich-like dimeric structure.

Summary: Eight novel carbohydrate-tethered trithiolato dinuclear ruthenium(II)-arene complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their activity against transgenic T. gondii tachyzoites. Seven conjugates strongly inhibited parasite proliferation while maintaining HFF viability. Two galactose-based conjugates (23 and 26) exhibited low IC50 values and reduced toxicity compared to the non-modified complexes.

Summary: This study describes the synthesis and structural characterization of three dinickel(II) complexes, highlighting their unique bridging patterns and magnetic properties. The complexes were also investigated for phenoxazinone-synthase-like activities using o-aminophenol as a model substrate in methanol. Mass spectrometry and EPR spectroscopic studies were conducted to gain insight into the reaction course and reactivity trend. This work provides new insights for biomimetic catalytic studies related to phenoxazinone synthase in nickel(II) systems.

Summary: This study investigated the propensity of 4-hydroxybenzhydrazone-related ligands derived from 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde, 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde, and salicylaldehyde to act as chelating and/or bridging ligands in Ni(II) complexes. Different clusters with various nuclearities were prepared and characterized. The ligands in these clusters acted as singly or doubly deprotonated ligands. The stability and substituent effects of square-planar complexes were studied and quantified. The crystal and molecular structures of several complexes were determined.

Summary: Two new metal complexes, a trinuclear and a pentanuclear coordination structure, have been synthesized and characterized. The structural analysis reveals different coordination environments for the metals in each complex. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show the presence of magnetic anisotropy for the cobalt ion in one complex and a coexistence of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions within the nickel pentanuclear unit in the other complex. Theoretical calculations based on crystal structures are in good agreement with experimental findings.
