Summary: The strategy of building two-dimensional (2D) metal oxide nanoflakes has led to significant innovations in various applications due to its unique characteristics. The integration of 2D dimensions into 3D superstructures provides improved properties and advantages. This study reports the construction of a 2D/3D copper oxide zinc oxide nanocomposite for specific detection of nimesulide. The conversion of 2D nanoflakes to 3D microflowers was achieved through self-assembly. The CZ composite exhibited high crystallinity and the formation of 2D nanoflakes was confirmed through microscopy imaging. The CZ nanocomposite demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic activity for sensing nimesulide.

Summary: Researchers have developed a novel carbonaceous nano-pools strategy to prepare a three-dimensional honeycomb-like porous carbon material as an anode in zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). This material, named ZnN/HPC-600, effectively prevents the formation of zinc dendrites and exhibits excellent cycling performance and stability.

Summary: Hierarchical superstructured carbons (HSCs) assembled by low-dimensional fibers or sheets have great potential in energy applications due to their stable intersecting carbon network, large accessible surface area, and optimized ion transfer. A novel HSC is developed based on constructing sandwich-type alternate layered carbon/Zn2SiO4 composite by an intercalation growth strategy, featuring ultrathin graphene-like carbon nanosheets with a thickness less than 1 nm and a rigid and stable 3D network structure. The as-prepared HSC demonstrates superior performance in electronic double-layer capacitor with a combination of large accessible surface area and optimized nanostructure for ion transfer and electron immigration.

Summary: In this article, a light-controlled protein crystal is introduced, which is obtained by complexing the model proteins with cationic azobenzene dyes. The crystalline state can be switched to a dispersed phase under ultraviolet light and restored by visible-light illumination, and this switching can be repeated without structure deterioration. This approach significantly increases the crystallinity and enables the formation of protein single crystals. It offers a method for fabricating optically controlled crystallization and studying metamaterials.

Summary: The crystal structure of ferritin derived from Asterias forbesii was resolved for the first time, revealing a unique lattice arrangement. Inspired by this structure, the researchers successfully manufactured 3D porous, crystalline nanoarchitectures by redesigning the shared protein interface. This study provides a potentially generalizable strategy for constructing different 3D protein-based crystalline biomaterials.
