Summary: The Pt(II) complexes with strong stacking tendency in the solid state and rich luminescence are potential candidates for new mechanochromic materials and sensing applications. Six mononuclear complexes and one dinuclear complex were synthesized and their structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Different intermolecular Pt(II) contacts and luminescent properties were observed for these complexes.

Summary: This paper reports an Au4Ni2 nanocluster with a square-planar [-PPh2-Au-S-Au-](2) ring and two nickel-pincer arms. Abundant intra- and inter-cluster noncovalent interactions promote the assembly of the nanocluster into a porous framework material. The solubility and photoluminescence properties depending on the assembly were also investigated.

Summary: The study investigated metal ion complexes like Li, Na, and Mg+, revealing their diffuse electron in quasi-spherical s-type orbitals and identifying them as superatoms. Analysis of their spectra and shell models shows unique behaviors and similarities to solvated electrons precursors, leading to the recognition of these complexes as superalkalis with lower ionization potentials than any atom in the periodic table.

Summary: In recent years, single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been successfully synthesized through various methods, demonstrating excellent catalytic activities. However, the tendency of metal atoms to agglomerate in liquid media complicates the synthesis of SACs in such environments. The synthesis of metal single-atom catalysts without strong ligand coordination is rarely reported. This study presents a straightforward synthesis of monodispersed Au atoms (Au-1) by reducing HAuCl4 in the presence of 15-crown-5. The resulting Au-1@15-crown-5 catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity in the reduction of nitrophenol and nitroaniline, outperforming both noble nanoparticles and non-precious metal catalysts due to the monodispersion of Au atoms.

Summary: The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to generate value-added chemicals or fuels using renewable energy resources is a promising approach to mitigate greenhouse gases. Developing highly efficient catalysts with minimum energy input and maximum conversion efficiency is a critical challenge. Mononuclear and dinuclear complexes of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni with macrocyclic Schiff-base calixpyrrole ligands were studied for catalyzing the reduction of CO2 to methane or methanol. Iron-containing mononuclear complex showed the highest activity and selectivity for transforming CO2 to CH4 with a very low negative limiting potential of -0.24 V, offering a technique for developing electrocatalysts with great potential for CO2 reduction reactions.

Summary: Reaction of the PNNP ligand system with various metal complexes resulted in tetranuclear homo- and heterometallic coinage metal complexes and a hexanuclear gold complex, all featuring a metal string conformation. Photophysical investigation showed a significant dependence of the photoluminescence properties on the metal composition, with three compounds approaching nearly 100% PL efficiency below 100 K.

Summary: This study focuses on improving the design of metal complexes as stabilizers of noncanonical DNA secondary structures. A series of cyclic dinuclear Au(I) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes based on xanthine and benzimidazole ligands have been synthesized and characterized. The compounds show stabilization properties towards G-quadruplexes (G4s) and moderate antiproliferative activity in human cancer cells. The binding modes and free energy landscape of the most active compound have been studied using metadynamics.

Summary: This study investigated the intermolecular contacts and luminescence properties of Au(I) compounds in various solvates. It was found that the length of the Au(I)•••Au(I) contacts in different solvates correlates with their luminescence energies, with toluene and tert-butylbenzene solvates showing the shortest and longest contacts and the lowest and highest luminescence energies, respectively. Time-dependent luminescence behaviors were also observed upon solvate loss in air. Calculation results further supported the relationship between intermolecular contacts and luminescence energies in these solvates.

Summary: In this study, we utilized fingerprint infrared multiple-photon dissociation spectra to investigate the monohydrated coordination complex of cobalt(II) and the macrocycle 1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxacyclopentadecane (or 15-crown-5). The metal-ligand complexes were generated through electrospray ionization and their IR action spectra were recorded using a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer with the free-electron laser FELIX. By comparing the obtained spectral data with computed vibrational spectra, we determined the electronic structure and chelation motif. We found that the gas-phase complex adopts a quartet spin state and the chelation geometry is pseudo-octahedral.

Summary: This article reports the synthesis and characterization of three azobenzene compounds with good coordinating groups. These compounds were used as ligands to synthesize water-soluble metallic species. Both the azo derivatives and their complexes exhibited photochemical activity in their isomerization process. The mechanism of isomerization was studied by analyzing the effect of donor groups, solvent, temperature, and pressure. The coordination of {Fe-II(CN)(5)(3-)} moieties fine-tuned the process and led to non-photoswitchable species containing typically photoactive units.
