Summary: This study compared the eosinophil phenotypes in blood and induced sputum among patients with COPD, asthma, and controls. It was found that the eosinophil phenotype in COPD patients' sputum differed from that of the other groups, indicating a distinct phenotype of eosinophils in COPD patients compared to asthma or healthy individuals.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the PDE1 inhibitor Vinp effectively inhibited airway hyper-responsiveness, reduced inflammatory cell counts in the lungs, improved bronchial and alveolar damage, and decreased OVA-specific IgE levels in serum.

Summary: The ethanol extract of Veronica persica (EEVP) has shown pharmacological activity in suppressing airway inflammation. It effectively inhibits the expression of inflammatory factors, reduces eosinophil infiltration, and decreases the production of cytokines in the lungs and BALF. Furthermore, it suppresses MCP-1 production in bronchial/tracheal epithelial cells by inhibiting STAT-3/6 activation.

Summary: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease with different inflammatory phenotypes. Identifying the specific phenotype is useful for selecting appropriate treatment. Paucigranulocytic phenotype of asthma (PGA) is a special subtype characterized by low levels of eosinophils and neutrophils in the sputum. The exact characteristics and pathobiology of PGA are not fully understood, but it may be driven by different cell types or represent a non-inflammatory phenotype with low levels of eosinophilic inflammation.

Summary: The understanding of the pathologic mechanisms of asthma and atopic dermatitis has improved in recent years. However, the high heterogeneity of both diseases complicates diagnosis and treatment, with current strategies mainly focusing on symptom control rather than full healing. There is a need for more personalized approaches to improve diagnosis and treatment efficacy.

Summary: Recent studies have found that endocrine-disrupting chemicals play a significant role in the development of asthma, particularly eosinophilic asthma. However, the specific mechanism remains unclear. This study used mouse models to investigate the harmful effects of mono-n-butyl phthalate (MnBP) on airway epithelial cells, T cells, and eosinophils. The results showed that MnBP increased airway hyperresponsiveness, eosinophil and T cell counts, and T helper 2 cytokine release in mice with asthma. Furthermore, MnBP directly enhanced eosinophil activation.

Summary: Eosinophilic inflammation is a characteristic of asthma, but neutrophilic inflammation can also occur. Asthma can be classified into eosinophilic asthma, neutrophilic asthma, and mixed subtypes. Neutrophilic asthma is associated with certain biomarkers and physiological pathways, as well as factors such as obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and smoking. Targeting neutrophilic asthma is important, and various treatments have been tested, but more research is needed to determine the optimal treatment.

Summary: Eosinophils play multiple roles in immune responses, including defense against parasites, promoting allergic inflammation, and regulatory functions. They possess both homeostatic and pro-resolving capacity, but their function is influenced by time and space.
