Summary: The study aimed to analyze the changes in circulating CD4(+) T cell subsets and cytokines during the course of Crohn's disease. The results showed that the frequency and number of double-positive IL-17A(+)FOXP3(+) CD4(+) T cells and the level of usCRP were significantly higher prior to relapse in patients who remained in remission, compared to those who relapsed. At the time of relapse, only the levels of IL-6 and usCRP were significantly higher compared to patients in remission.

An assessment of serum vitamin B12 and folate in patients with Crohn's disease

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between serum vitamin B12 and folate levels in Crohn's disease patients and disease activation, localization, duration, and age at onset. The results showed that vitamin B12 and folate levels were significantly lower in Crohn's disease patients compared to the control group. Regular monitoring and supplementation of vitamin B12 and folate are important for Crohn's disease patients.

Untargeted serum metabolomics reveals specific metabolite abnormalities in patients with Crohn's disease

Summary: In this study, specific biomarkers for Crohn's disease (CD) were identified through serum metabolomics analysis. Deoxycholic acid and palmitic amide were found to be potential predictive biomarkers for CD diagnosis. These biomarkers can effectively discriminate CD patients from healthy controls and suggest a potential association between CD metabolic disturbance and bile acid biosynthesis, fatty acids, and energy metabolism.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the serum levels of IL-38 in COVID-19 patients and understand its relationship with disease severity, age, gender, and body mass index. The results showed that there were no significant differences in IL-38 levels between patients and controls, but there were some differences in terms of disease severity, age, and gender. Therefore, IL-38 might play a role in the pathogenesis of COVID-19.

Summary: This study presented the first case series of patients with both Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and Crohn's disease (CD), highlighting diagnostic challenges and elevated IL-23 levels in LCH patients, with a correlation between lesional LCH cells and circulating IL-23 levels. Both CD and LCH should be considered in patients with inflammatory gastrointestinal involvement, with the IL-23 pathway being a common immunological trait between these two granulomatous diseases.

Summary: This study elucidates the changes and mechanisms of circulating CD28- cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) in patients with IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). The results show that IL-7 promotes the expansion and functional changes of CD28- CTLs in IgG4-RD through the JAK pathway, which affects the immune balance of IgG4-RD patients. Blocking the IL-7 signaling pathway may be a new therapeutic strategy for IgG4-RD.

A Serum Biomarker Panel Can Accurately Identify Mucosal Ulcers in Patients With Crohn's Disease

Summary: This study investigated the predictive value of the Endoscopic Healing Index (EHI) in assessing endoscopic inflammation in Crohn's disease. The results showed that EHI is independently associated with ulcer size and can accurately identify large or very large ulcers. A cutoff of 50 points reliably indicates the presence of mucosal ulcers, while a cutoff of 20 points reliably rules out mucosal ulcers, providing guidance for treatment adjustment.

Summary: In this case study, a 72-year-old female patient presented with progressive girdle weakness, sensation of heaviness in the lower limbs, circulatory problems, and instability when walking, leading to a diagnosis of paraneoplastic Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS). Discordant results between immunoblot and indirect immunofluorescence testing suggested the presence of specific SOX1 antibody and underlying tumor.

Anisakis simplex: Immunomodulatory effects of larval antigens on the activation of Toll like Receptors

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the mechanisms by which Anisakis simplex modifies its host immune system through larval antigens interacting with Toll-Like-Receptors (TLRs). The findings showed that the larval antigens had specific mechanisms to modify the innate responses of the host, influencing different inflammatory responses in different mouse strains. The results contribute to a better understanding of allergy-related diseases and specific mechanisms of A. simplex immune responses.

Summary: Corticosteroids have shown to reduce mortality and ICU admission frequency in COVID-19 patients requiring high-flow oxygen or NIV, but not in those requiring low-flow oxygen. Better patient selection is needed for the beneficial use of corticosteroids in COVID-19 treatment.
