Summary: The rise of antibiotic resistance and new vaccine technologies have increased the focus on vaccination to control gonorrhea. This study used negative-ion MALDI-TOF MS to analyze intact lipooligosaccharide (LOS) from different Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains, and found that microwave-enhanced enzymatic digestion is suitable for MS studies. The research also discovered a potential association between disialylation of LOS and the reduced infectivity of FA1090 in men.

Summary: This study investigates the role of CD40 in atherosclerosis and shows that inhibiting CD40 signaling can reduce atherosclerosis. The researchers used myeloid-specific CD40-deficient mice and found that the absence of CD40 in myeloid cells reduces atherosclerosis and systemic inflammation by preventing pro-inflammatory macrophage polarization.

Summary: The study revealed that MOF is significantly overexpressed during ALI and can impact liver cell proliferation, fibrosis, and activation of certain signaling pathways. Knockdown of Mof attenuated ALI and promoted liver regeneration by activating the Insulin-like growth factor 1 signaling pathway. These findings suggest a potential therapeutic target for ALI.

Summary: The normal function of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is crucial for maintaining whole-body glucose homeostasis. This study examines the mediating role of IP3R1, a calcium release channel, in regulating glucose homeostasis in peripheral tissues. The results show that IP3R1 expression levels are increased in white adipose tissue and skeletal muscle of diet-induced obese mice. Knockout of Ip3r1 in skeletal muscle improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in mice on a normal chow diet, but worsens insulin resistance in diet-induced obese mice. On the other hand, deletion of Ip3r1 in adipocytes protects mice from diet-induced obesity and glucose intolerance, mainly through enhanced lipolysis and the AMPK signaling pathway in visceral fat.

Summary: The study found that aspiration with oral commensals in mice led to short-term lower-airway dysbiosis, but induced a prolonged inflammatory response, including IL-17-producing T cells, lasting at least 14 days. Furthermore, aspiration with oral commensals decreased hosts' susceptibility to respiratory challenge with S. pneumoniae.

Summary: The study shows that dietary supplementation with resveratrol induces the noncanonical autophagy pathway and limits its interaction with inflammation, leading to modulation of synovial hyperplasia. This dietary intervention with resveratrol may offer a potential therapeutic alternative to influence the risk and course of rheumatoid arthritis.

Summary: Aging is often accompanied by chronic systemic inflammation, referred to as inflammaging, which plays a major role in age-associated diseases. Research shows that different organs have organ-specific responses to inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and lipid mediators, with varying levels of pro-inflammatory and pro-resolving mediators during the aging process.

Summary: This study investigated the contribution of cecal microbiota to fat metabolism and abdominal fat deposition in chickens. The results showed that an imbalance in fat metabolism led to excessive abdominal fat deposition. Fecal microbiota transplantation experiments further revealed a close relationship between gut microbiota and fat deposition.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different levels of acetylferulic paeonol ester (APE) on the growth performance, body composition, serum biochemical indicators, and lipid and glucose metabolism of Nile tilapia. The results showed that APE supplementation improved weight gain and decreased liver lipid content. It also affected serum biochemical parameters related to lipid and glucose metabolism. Transcriptome analysis revealed changes in gene expression related to fatty acid oxidation and degradation. APE influenced the hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism of tilapia at both enzymatic and mRNA levels.

Summary: This study found that E. cloacae can promote the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and atherosclerosis by inducing inflammation and lipid accumulation. These findings are important for studying the pathogenesis and drug screening of these diseases.
