Summary: This paper proposes a new approach by assuming that the parameters in both the PFO and PSO models are random variables, and solves both models probabilistically by obtaining the probability density functions of the corresponding solution processes. The theoretical findings are then applied to model the adsorption of cadmium ions onto tree fern using real data, and the results of the randomized PFO and PSO models are compared, with the PSO model being selected.

Summary: Untreated Pinus radiata sawdust was found to be a promising and efficient adsorbent for the removal of Cu+2 ions from aqueous solutions. The best conditions for adsorption efficacy (93.4% removal percentage and 0.82 mg/g adsorption capacity) were achieved by increasing the adsorbent dose to 5 g/L, adjusting the solution pH to 7, and decreasing the initial metal ion concentration to 5 mg/L. The adsorption process involved different stages and fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and second-order kinetic model. Additionally, high desorption efficiencies up to 94.5% were achieved, and the possibility of sawdust regeneration was studied.

Summary: This paper introduces the monotone extended second-order cone (MESOC), presents its properties and computation of its dual cone. The projection onto MESOC is reduced to the pool-adjacent-violators algorithm (PAVA) of isotonic regression. An application of MESOC to portfolio optimization is provided. Some broad descriptions of possible MESOC-regression models are also outlined.

Summary: This study synthesized and characterized biochar (BC) from shrimp shells as a biosorbent for the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye. The BC showed high adsorption capacity and biocompatibility, as well as antibiofilm activity against various bacteria.

Summary: Batch adsorption of chromium metal ions from aqueous solutions was performed using activated biochar material from Ziziphus jujube seed powder. The adsorbent material was chemically synthesized and activated with concentrated sulfuric acid. Characterization of the adsorbent material was conducted using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The best parameters for pH, contact duration, dose, ion concentration, temperature, and particle size were determined through batch experiments.

Summary: The electrospun membranes of PAN nanofiber activated with NaHCO3 showed good adsorption capacity for lead and nickel ions, with a preference for Ni2+ over Pb2+. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the chemisorption mechanism. Varying the solution pH affected the adsorption capacity, reaching a maximum at pH 7.0, while increasing initial concentrations led to a decrease in removal efficiency.

Summary: This article presents a novel approach for solving chance-constrained trajectory optimization problems in nonlinear dynamic systems. By transforming the chance constraints into deterministic ones and utilizing iterative convex optimization and successive linearization algorithms, feasible trajectory solutions are obtained.

Summary: In this study, biodegradable composites were fabricated with PCL matrix reinforced with pine cone powder and graphite powder, and tested for dimensional stability, biodegradability, and fracture energy. The results showed that composites with 15wt% pine cone powder exhibited higher dimensional stability, while the 30% pine cone powder composites showed increased fracture energy for crack initiation.

Summary: The initial periods of adsorption kinetics are crucial for estimating the initial adsorption rate and rate constant. Applying the linear equations of the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model helps identify potential errors in the experimental data during the initial periods. After removing these error points, the experimental data can be well-fitted with the PSO model.

Summary: The study focuses on maximizing biogas production in a gradostat, with a main technical emphasis on the nonconvex constraint describing microbial growth. By formulating a relaxation and using numerical approximations, steady state models are extended to multiple time periods, resulting in second-order cone programs solvable with standard industrial software.

Summary: The reasonable installation position and appropriate configuration capacity of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations directly affect the operation strategy and operating conditions of the distribution system, as well as the economic and environmental benefits of distributed power supply and EV load connected to the power grid. Through analysis of the characteristics of fuel vehicles, EV travel, and electrical geography coupling state, a more accurate EV charging load can be obtained by fitting the EV charging data with the travel chain. Additionally, an optimal allocation model of EV charging stations is established to optimize the grid loss and obtain the configuration scheme of EV charging stations by solving the nonconvex problem using the second-order cone relaxation technique and the distflow power flow model. Finally, a simulation of the optimal configuration of charging stations is conducted, and the effectiveness of the proposed configuration scheme is verified.
