Summary: High-resolution ultrasound spectroscopy, size and zeta-potential titrations, and isothermal titration calorimetry were used to characterize the interactions between hyaluronan and catanionic ion pair amphiphile vesicles. The interactions showed a correlation between data from size titration, HR-US, and visual observation. Intensity of interactions and the disaggregation were dependent on the molecular weight of hyaluronan.

Summary: This study compares the membrane capacitance, bending rigidity, and shear surface viscosity of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) formed by various commonly used methods. The results show that the bending rigidity values are relatively similar across all methods except for agarose hydration. The capacitance values are similar except for vesicles prepared via PVA gel hydration. Membranes prepared by gel-assisted and phase-transfer methods have higher shear viscosity, likely due to remnants of polymers and oils in the lipid bilayer structure.

Summary: Near-infrared light-triggered photothermal therapy is considered an attractive noninvasive treatment for posterior capsular opacification (PCO) in cataract patients. Researchers have fabricated a new type of intraocular lens (IOL) with excellent biocompatibility, stability, and photothermal conversion property. The effectiveness of the IOL in preventing PCO has been demonstrated in in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Summary: The use of lithium citrate in ethylene glycol as a lubricating additive has been found to achieve a superlubricity state with a coefficient of friction of 0.002 for an a-C film. This reduces the wear rate by 98.3% compared to lubrication with ethylene glycol alone. Friction promotes the chemisorption of lithium citrate molecules, forming robust tribochemical films that prevent direct contact between the friction pair, resulting in minimal wear.

Summary: This study focuses on developing long-lasting liposomes using polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different molecular weights to improve the solubility and continuous release of camptothecin (CPT). The stealth liposomes prepared with PEG(5000) showed higher encapsulation efficiency, prolonged drug release, and better stability at refrigeration temperature compared to conventional liposomes. The pharmacokinetic parameters of stealth liposomes containing PEG(2000) and PEG(5000) also significantly differed from conventional liposomes, indicating altered tissue distribution.

Summary: This study investigates the interfacial structures of a Nafion/graphene composite under different humid environments using SFG vibrational spectroscopy. The results show that the Nafion thin film forms a lamellar structure on the graphene surface, with a similar orientation to that of the free Nafion/air interface. The buried Nafion/graphene interface has distinct structural differences compared to hydrophilic substrate surfaces such as fused quartz and calcium fluoride, which significantly affect water adsorption behaviors at the interface.
