Summary: Wavelet transform is introduced as a novel signal processing method for singularity detection in vibration-based nondestructive testing (NDT) methods. This paper proposes a modified 2D Morlet wavelet function to overcome the anisotropic behavior of 2D continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and improve its sensitivity to damage in all directions for plate-like structures. Numerical simulations and experimental damage identification on composite laminates confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the modified 2D CWT.

Summary: Wavelets provide flexibility for analyzing stochastic processes at different scales. In this article, we apply wavelets to multivariate point processes to detect and analyze unknown nonstationarity. We develop a temporally smoothed wavelet periodogram to ensure statistical tractability and demonstrate its equivalence to a multi-wavelet periodogram. Under the assumption of stationarity, the distribution of the temporally smoothed wavelet periodogram is shown to be asymptotically Wishart, with readily computable parameters. The distributional results also extend to wavelet coherence, a measure of inter-process correlation. We apply this statistical framework to construct a test for stationarity in multivariate point processes and successfully detect and characterize time-varying dependency patterns in neural spike-train data.

Summary: This study simulated single-degree-of-freedom and three-degree-of-freedom viscous damping systems using the Morlet wavelet function transformation. The purpose was to investigate wavelet transform and promote the optimization of nonlinear system modal identification. Additionally, the study explored modal animation display technology using Visual Basic (VB) 6.0 software and Open GL three-dimensional graphics library. The research focused on a thin plate member with five degrees of freedom. The results showed accurate and reliable identification frequency and damping ratio in the single-degree-of-freedom damping system. In the three-degree-of-freedom damping system, higher recognition accuracy was observed in the first-order wavelet coefficient model. The results provided scientific and effective reference materials for future research on nonlinear system modal identification.

Summary: This study investigates the temporal variation of the approximate 27-day and Rieger periodicities in the spectral emission of Fe XIV solar corona observed at 530.3 nm from January 1, 1940 to December 31, 2008. The results show significant power in both periodicities with annual variations. It is found that the power of the Rieger periodicity exceeds that of the approximate 27-day period during solar maximum.

Summary: In this paper, an adaptive method called iterative Morlet wavelet filter (IMWF) is proposed to address the flaw of parameter setting in blind deconvolution (BD) methods. The IMWF optimizes the traditional Morlet wavelet filter to process the adaptively constructed signal matrix based on power spectral density. The lifted correlation kurtosis with autocorrelation-closing analysis is used as the objective function to determine the optimal parameter. The IMWF is further enhanced using the SOSO boosting strategy through an iterative algorithm. Simulation and experimental cases demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the IMWF for fault identification.

Summary: The El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is significantly correlated with seed and leaf fall in a temperate forest in northeastern China, with different species showing varying levels of correlation. Leaf fall synchronizes with ENSO cycles, while seed fall synchrony occurs only at seasonal scales. ENSO influences seed fall through mediating rainfall and relative humidity, highlighting the interactive effects of local climate and ENSO. These findings emphasize the potential impacts of ENSO on ecosystems outside of tropical regions and improve our understanding of temperate forest dynamics under global change.

Summary: Obtaining accurate evolutionary spectrum and time-varying coherence for multivariate nonstationary processes is important in engineering applications. However, estimating the time-varying coherence is challenging and has been rarely studied for a single realization of a nonstationary process. To address this issue, an improved multi-taper S-transform (MTST) method is proposed, which reduces the variance of the estimates with a sufficient time-frequency resolution. The technique uses different number of tapers at each frequency to achieve a trade-off between resolution and variance.

Summary: This paper defines and explores the properties of nonstationary iterative processes, demonstrating the existence of higher efficiency nonstationary processes of the same order for one-point iterative processes without memory. It provides constructions and properties for nonstationary processes of Newton's, Halley's, and Chebyshev's methods, with some geometric interpretations. The algorithms presented can be easily transformed into computer programs, with numerical examples provided as demonstrations for the methods discussed.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic relationships between Islamic stocks, oil prices, gold prices, and global policy uncertainty. Monthly data from 1996M1 to 2018M12 for the Dow Jones World Islamic Stock Index, oil prices, and global policy uncertainty were analyzed using a range of statistical techniques including cointegration, wavelet analysis, and wavelet coherence. The findings reveal strong bidirectional causality between the variables and demonstrate both positive and negative coherence between gold prices, Islamic stocks, and oil prices under different conditions of global policy uncertainty.

Summary: This study investigates the spatiotemporal characterization of streamflow in six unregulated catchments in India, revealing significant oscillations at different time scales and relationships between streamflow and precipitation as well as global climate indices. The analysis showed in-phase relationships between streamflow and IOD and NAO, while lag correlations were observed with Nino 3.4 and PDO indices at various time scales.
