Summary: Research on LDPE films revealed that the deepest traps are located in thin near-surface polymer layers, where part of the charge is captured in deep traps with limited concentration. Furthermore, these deep traps can also be filled via a sequence of trapping and release events from shallower traps located in the near-surface layer.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the charge accumulation and decay in SDBDs driven by a combination of sine AC voltage waveform and nanosecond positive voltage pulse. It is found that the accumulation of positive charge promotes the discharge in the negative half cycle, while inhibiting the development of new positive charge filaments. The decay of a single positive charge filament is a result of neutralization by negative charges from either the migration of negative surface charge or the drift of free electrons.

Summary: Gas-insulated equipment is essential for dc transmission systems, but surface charge accumulation can lead to insulation failure. The surface trap distribution is typically measured using the surface potential decay (SPD) method, which dissipates surface charges through the sample bulk. However, distinguishing carriers trapped on the surface and in the material bulk is challenging, and the SPD method is difficult to apply in engineering due to sample thickness limitations. To overcome these challenges, a novel method called surface potential decay along surface (SPDS) measurement is proposed, which allows for estimating the surface trap distribution and conductivity characteristics of the insulator.

Summary: This study explores the surface charge behavior of polyimide films under corona discharge by measuring surface potential at different stages. A three-region model is proposed to explain the surface potential evolution, and the influence of voltage polarity and duration on charge deposition and leakage is analyzed. This research is expected to provide insights into surface charge behavior under dc corona for future studies.

Summary: The ability to retain localized charges at the surface or interface of dielectric materials is a universal property that has applications in various fields. In this study, equations are derived to model the decay of localized charge distributions, and a useful tool for determining material conductivities is proposed. Experimental verification of the predicted behavior is conducted.

Summary: The measurement of surface charge on insulating dielectrics is crucial for estimating the insulation strength of electrical equipment. Interactions with the electromagnetic field often distort the measurements, making it important to investigate a passive sensor for monitoring deposited charge.

Summary: The study utilized dual needle corona discharge (NCD) as a bipolar ion source to neutralize electrospray particles, achieving stable concentration and consistent size distribution. The bipolar ions generated by the dual NCD effectively neutralized and reduced the charge state of larger ES-PSL particles.

Summary: The study reveals that corona point discharges occur when a grounded conductive rod is exposed to a high background electric field, with current pulses showing fast rise time and slow decay. The frequency of pulses increases with applied voltage and is closely related to the ambient electric field. This correlation was observed both in laboratory and field measurements, indicating the importance of understanding corona production in high structures.

Summary: This article reports on the decay mechanism of positive charge filaments in surface dielectric barrier discharges, observed using a high-speed camera and the Pockels effect of a bismuth silicon oxide crystal. The study finds that the generation of new positive charge filaments is influenced by the surface charge memory effect and the background charge environment plays a crucial role in the decay of surface charge.

Summary: This study reports on the practical application of corona discharge treatment (CDT) to enhance the power outputs of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). The compositional analysis and triboelectric outputs of Poly(1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) based TENGs are investigated. The relationship between triboelectric outputs and depth of oxygen ions is revealed through XPS depth profile analysis. This discovery provides insights for the future development of high performance TENGs using CDT.

Summary: In this study, the steady-state concentration and lifetime of plasma-produced hydroxyl radicals in water solutions at pH 3 and 7 were quantified for the first time, along with discussions on their reactivity with other plasma-generated species. The use of chemical probes to quantify short-lived reactive species was shown to have an influence on the results and should be taken into account.
