Thermal management is an increasingly important aspect of IC design. After reviewing several chip-cooling techniques proposed in the literature, this article presents an alternative approach based on a recently invented digital- microfluidic platform. Originally developed for a biological and chemical lab on a chip, this technology can be adapted for use as a fully reconfigurable, adaptive cooling platform.
