Summary: This study evaluated the long-term safety and effectiveness of open-label lurasidone treatment in patients with bipolar depression. The results showed that long-term treatment with lurasidone was well-tolerated and associated with continued improvement in depressive symptoms.

Summary: The study found a significant association between symptom progression, duration of lithium treatment, and hsCRP levels in male BD patients. Longer duration of lithium treatment was negatively correlated with hsCRP levels, suggesting a potential anti-inflammatory effect of lithium.

Summary: This study investigates the association between serum valproic acid levels and risk of mood episode recurrence in bipolar disorder patients. The findings suggest that maintaining a serum valproic acid concentration between 50-74 μg/ml may be more effective in preventing acute mood episodes in patients with bipolar disorder compared to a concentration below 50 μg/ml.

Summary: Pharmacogenomics-guided treatment may be effective in the cure of treatment-resistant depression. This study evaluated the clinical changes after PGT in patients with TRD and found that the PGT group showed significant improvements in efficacy index and clinical global impression compared to the control group.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of individual genes in the response to treatment in bipolar depression, finding that pharmacogenetic variables can predict patient response to medication and tolerability. These predictors could be useful for guiding pharmacological treatment in bipolar disorder, but further clinical studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: Long-term adherence to antiosteoporosis medication (AOM) in patients with hip fracture seen at a fracture liaison service (FLS) is suboptimal, although a high proportion maintains good medication coverage during treatment.

Summary: The study found that patients with better cognitive performance, particularly in terms of verbal memory and executive functions at baseline, are likely to have better functional outcomes in the long-term follow-up after receiving functional remediation for bipolar disorder.

Summary: The study found significant associations between lithium serum concentrations and the expression levels of 52 genes, including 32 up-regulated genes and 20 downregulated genes. The down-regulated gene set was enriched for processes related to the translational machinery. Two adverse effects, tremor and xerostomia, were significantly associated with three or more lithium-associated genes, while the largest effect was seen between CAMK1D expression and nausea/vomiting. These results suggest potential transcriptional mechanisms that may predict lithium adverse effects and have implications for clinical practice.

Summary: This study tested a psychosocial intervention to improve medication adherence and health behaviors in BD patients. The intervention was found to have medium to large effects on medication adherence, attitudes towards medication, and manic symptoms, with high levels of participant satisfaction. Further research with a larger sample size is needed.

Summary: The study found that patients with bipolar disorder have an increased cardiometabolic risk associated with symptom severity, and treatment with quetiapine can worsen cardiometabolic markers. The results highlight the importance of monitoring cardiometabolic risks during treatment.

Summary: This study found correlations between adherence to treatment guidelines and quality of life, treatment satisfaction, and impaired functioning in patients with bipolar disorder. The change in adherence to treatment guidelines was positively associated with the change in quality of life. Continuous efforts to optimize ongoing treatment, especially in long-term treatment, are essential for better outcomes.

Summary: This systematic review on the impact of disease progression in the treatment of bipolar disorder patients found that efficacy decreases with clinical progression, supporting early intervention. However, tailored recommendations cannot be made based on disease stages currently, highlighting the need for further research.

Summary: Time-restricted eating (TRE) is an intermittent fasting strategy that limits eating time to a window of 4-12 hours per day, which may lead to weight loss and improvements in metabolic health. TRE may facilitate long-term weight loss maintenance through various levels of influence such as biological, behavioral, psychosocial, and environmental factors.

Summary: Neuropsychological impairment is a key feature of bipolar disorder (BD) that is evident even in early-course patients and predicts functional outcomes. This review synthesizes research findings comparing long-term neurocognitive trajectories between BD patients and healthy individuals. The results show no evidence of progressive cognitive deterioration in most bipolar individuals.

Summary: This study evaluated the profiles of PEP adherence, ADRs, and discontinuation associated with ADRs. The overall adherence to PEP was found to be less than 60% across samples, with significant heterogeneity. Survivors of sexual assault had the lowest adherence and highest discontinuation rate. Ongoing adherence education, timely monitoring, and management of ADRs may improve adherence.
