The presence of brain atrophy and its progression in early Parkinson's disease (PD) are still a matter of debate, particularly in patients without cognitive impairment. The aim of this longitudinal te nucleus, and thalamus when compared to control subjects. study was to assess whether PD patients who remain cognitively intact develop progressive atrophic changes in the early stages of the disease. For this purpose, we employed high-resolution T1-weighted MR imaging to compare 22 drug-naive de novo PD patients without cognitive impairment to 17 age-matched control subjects, both at baseline and at three-year follow-up. We used tensor-based morphometry to explore the presence of atrophic changes at baseline and to compute yearly atrophy rates, after which we performed voxel-wise group comparisons using threshold-free cluster enhancement. At baseline, we did not observe significant differences in regional atrophy in PD patients with respect to control subjects. In contrast, PD patients showed significantly higher yearly atrophy rates in the prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulum, caudaOur results indicate that even cognitively preserved PD patients show progressive cortical and subcortical atrophic changes in regions related to cognitive functions and that these changes are already detectable in the early stages of the disease. Neuroanatomical markers of familial risk in adolescents with conduct disorder and their unaffected relatives

Graeme Fairchild, Kate Sully, Luca Passamonti, Marlene Staginnus, Angela Darekar, Edmund J. S. Sonuga-Barke, Nicola Toschi

Summary: This study investigated brain structure in adolescents with conduct disorder (CD) and their unaffected relatives (URs), and found that alterations in inferior parietal cortical structure partly mediate the effects of familial risk for CD. Neuroanatomical changes in medial orbitofrontal and anterior cingulate cortex differentiated between URs and the other groups, potentially reflecting neural mechanisms of resilience to CD.

Magnetic resonance imaging Locus Coeruleus abnormality in amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment is associated with future progression to dementia

Summary: This study used LC-MRI to investigate the involvement of the pontine nucleus Locus Coeruleus (LC) in Alzheimer's disease progression and its association with prognosis and cognitive performance in amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment. The findings suggest that reductions in LC-MRI parameters may be predictive of clinical progression in Mild Cognitive Impairment and support the role of LC degeneration in the continuum of Alzheimer's disease.

Neurodevelopmental Antecedents and Sensory Phenomena in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A Systematic Review Supporting a Phenomenological-Developmental Model

Summary: This study reviewed the literature on sensory phenomena and neurodevelopmental antecedents in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) to propose a bottom-up perspective for understanding OCD. The findings indicate that sensory phenomena and neurodevelopmental features are associated with OCD. The study suggests a neurodevelopmental-phenomenological model that can explain the dimensional affinity between OCD and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

Collinearity and Dimensionality Reduction in Radiomics: Effect of Preprocessing Parameters in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Magnetic Resonance T1 and T2 Mapping

Summary: Radiomics and artificial intelligence have the potential to be valuable tools in clinical applications. This study assessed the effect of preprocessing, such as voxel size resampling, discretization, and filtering, on correlation-based dimensionality reduction of radiomic features from cardiac T1 and T2 maps. The results showed that the percentage of eliminated radiomic features was more dependent on resampling voxel size and discretization bin width for textural features. Correlation-based dimensionality reduction was less sensitive to preprocessing when considering T2 features compared to T1 features.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the symptom severity and prognosis of individuals at clinical high-risk for psychosis who were on antipsychotic medication during a 1-year follow-up period. The results showed that compared to those not taking antipsychotics, individuals on antipsychotic medication had more severe symptoms and lower functioning at baseline. At the end of the follow-up period, individuals on antipsychotic medication had higher rates of psychosis transition, hospitalizations, and urgent/non-planned visits.

Summary: This research aimed to examine the relationship between anhedonia and suicidal thoughts in individuals with First Episode Psychosis (FEP) and at Ultra High Risk (UHR) of psychosis. The study found that an enduring and independent association between anhedonia and suicidal ideation existed in FEP individuals, while in the UHR subgroup, the relationship between anhedonia and suicidal thoughts was not completely independent from depression severity.

Additionally, MBI patients frequently reported higher severity of apathy and motor retardation.

Summary: The ITALUNG trial, conducted from 2004, compared the mortality rates of lung cancer and other causes in smokers and ex-smokers aged 55-69 who were randomly assigned to receive low-dose CT (LDCT) or usual care. After 13 years of follow-up, the ITALUNG trial demonstrated a lower mortality rate for lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases in the screened subjects, particularly in women. In addition, the trial generated multiple ancillary studies on various aspects of lung cancer screening, including software development, assessment of lung nodules and calcifications, and biomarker assays.

Pathology of imagination in an adolescent at clinical high-risk for psychosis

Michele Poletti, Andrea Raballo

Summary: We report a pathological imagination process in an adolescent at clinical high-risk for psychosis, associated with the presence of self-disorders. The subjective experience associated with pathological imagination helps distinguish it from intrusive thoughts in obsessive-compulsive patients; moreover, such anomalous imagination focused on others may be an adaptive process triggered by negative emotionality towards others who are difficult to relate to. In conclusion, anomalies of imaginations may occur within the schizophrenic spectrum during adolescent prodromal stages, associated with self-disorders.
