Summary: Emerging evidence suggests that the rodent medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) plays a crucial role in adapting behavior to changing information. The mPFC subregions, such as the dorsal and ventral mPFC, have specific functions in regulating action control and translating affective signals. However, these subregions also interact and influence each other in the modulation of adaptive behavior.

Summary: Research on the neurophysiology of adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is limited. This study investigated the use of MMN features as biomarkers to classify drug-naive adult patients with ADHD and healthy controls. Results showed that adult patients with ADHD had lower MMN amplitudes and reduced MMN source activation, which were correlated with ADHD symptoms. Machine learning was able to differentiate the two groups with a high accuracy based on MMN source activity features.

Summary: Early life stress increases the risk of mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders throughout one's lifetime, mainly through changes in motivation and reward processing in the reward circuit. Research indicates that early life stress impacts the structure and function of the reward circuit.

Summary: This study examined the diagnostic indicators, clinical characteristics, and functional impairment associated with adult ADHD using electronic medical records and self-report measures. The results showed a significant difference in prevalence of ADHD between self-report screening and medical records. ADHD was found to contribute to functional impairment even when controlling for other psychiatric comorbidities.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between ventral caudate connectivity and anhedonia. The results showed that depressed patients exhibited increased functional connectivity between the left ventral caudate and superior frontal gyrus over time, and this increased connectivity was associated with anhedonia improvement.

Summary: This study explores the role of zdhhc15 gene in novelty-seeking behaviors and impulsivity by using knockout mice as experimental models. The research reveals that the absence of zdhhc15 gene may lead to elevated locomotion and extracellular dopamine levels in response to novel environments, suggesting a novel regulatory mechanism of dopamine in the striatum.

Summary: Social deficits and dysregulations in dopaminergic midbrain-striato-frontal circuits are common symptoms across psychiatric disorders. The present study investigated the effects of the AT1R antagonist losartan on social reward and punishment processing in humans. The findings suggest that losartan modulates approach-avoidance motivation and emotional salience during social punishment versus social reward by influencing the core nodes of the midbrain-striato-frontal circuits.

Summary: Behavioral evidence suggests that reward prediction errors play a key role in episodic memory acquisition. In a novel task where RPEs were manipulated, fMRI results confirmed that signed RPEs are encoded in the ventral striatum and mediate their effects on episodic memory accuracy. Connectivity between processing areas and the hippocampus and ventral striatum increased with RPE value, supporting their central role in episodic memory formation.

Summary: Adolescents and adults show differences in their response to rewards and handling uncertainty, possibly influenced by different reward probabilities. Adolescents exhibit faster reaction times under lower reward probabilities in experiments, but overall slower response speed compared to adults.

Summary: The study suggests that the fMRI response to rewards in the ventral striatum reflects a mixture of component processes of reward, with an inferior ventral striatal component and hippocampus being involved in reward-based processing during gambling. The more superior ventral striatal component is linked to networks associated with executive functioning and responds to both reward and cognitive control demands.

Summary: This study examines the effects of smoking symbols (SSs) within no smoking signs (NSSs) on smoking behavior. The findings suggest that prohibition symbols (PSs) and SSs interact with each other, with PSs reducing anticipation of smoking behavior. Additionally, stronger SSs elicit stronger slow positive waves and late positive potentials, which are associated with attention.

Summary: This study examined the use of different machine learning techniques to assess the feasibility of using registry data for diagnosing ADHD in children and adolescents in Sweden. The findings showed that a DNN model achieved good predictive ability for ADHD and identified several important features for classification. If validated and proven to be cost-effective in external samples, this model could potentially serve as a useful tool in clinical practice to aid in ADHD screening and decision-making.

Summary: This study found that PPI differences in Roman rats were associated with divergences in mPFC activity, and reduced activation of PV interneurons was observed in the Roman high-avoidance (RHA) rats with low PPI. Additionally, RHA rats exhibited decreased density of both PV interneurons and PSD-95 puncta on active PV interneurons. These findings suggest that reduced cortical inhibition may contribute to the schizophrenia-like features observed in RHA rats, supporting the role of impaired cortical inhibition in schizophrenia.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate psychopathology, family stress, and coping strategies in families of pediatric solid organ transplantation (SOT) recipients compared to families of healthy children and adolescents. The results showed that families of SOT recipients exhibited higher levels of anxiety, stress related to childcare and parent-child interaction, and used more avoidance and religious coping strategies, while using fewer social support coping strategies. The study highlights the importance of providing psychological interventions and support for caregivers of SOT patients.

Summary: This study examines the capacity of the self-report Borderline Personality Features Scale Children-11 (BPFSC-11) to discriminate between Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adolescents. The results show that the total BPFSC-11 score has good discriminant capacity among adolescents diagnosed with BPD, ADHD, and healthy volunteers. However, different patterns of discriminative capacity were observed between the three groups for emotional dysregulation and impulsivity/recklessness factors.

Summary: An observational cohort study was conducted to investigate the impact of antenatal anxiety on fetal growth. The study included 204 women with singleton pregnancies during the strict lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Various factors, such as psychosocial factors, maternal demographics, obstetric outcomes, social support, and symptoms of anxiety and depression, were examined as potential predictors of low birth weight. The results showed that trait anxiety was negatively correlated with birth weight percentile.

Summary: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the association between ADHD and T2D. Our findings suggest that individuals with ADHD have a significantly increased risk of developing T2D, and this association can be largely explained by psychiatric comorbidities. Early identification and treatment of ADHD comorbidities may be crucial in reducing the risk of T2D in individuals with ADHD.

Summary: This study identified differential characteristics between patients with and without Hoarding Disorder (HD) diagnosis in a clinical sample of patients with clinically relevant hoarding behavior. Hoarding behavior is often overlooked in its early stages and hoarding-related complications are common. Alcohol use disorder may play a significant role among patients without HD diagnosis.
