Summary: The strategy of modifying phosphane ligands through substituent variation has been widely used in coordination chemistry and catalysis. This study synthesized unsymmetric ferrocene diphosphanes with electronically distinct phosphane moieties and converted them to corresponding selenides and Pd(0) complexes. The compounds were characterized by various techniques and their structures were determined. The redox behavior of the compounds was studied and compared with DFT calculations. The prepared Pd(0) complexes were applied in Pd-catalyzed C-H arylation reaction and compared with characterization data.

Summary: In this study, novel redox-active protic ionic liquids (RAPILs) are introduced and electrochemically characterized. These RAPILs are formed by acid-base neutralization from inexpensive starting materials. A new RAIL-in-IL solvent system is also demonstrated for efficient and cost-effective determination of redox potentials and screening for electrochemical reversibility. The results show that among the tested redox-active ionic liquids, only propylammonium 4-nitrophenylacetate exhibits completely reversible electrochemistry and preservation of ionic character under acidic or neutral conditions. Propylammonium 2,5-dihydroxyphenyl-carboxylate also demonstrates two reversible redox processes, but is unstable to oxidation, likely forming an uncharged benzoquinone species at 0.27 V vs Ag (-0.14 V vs Fc). Based on these findings, design criteria are proposed for future experimental and computational work.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis and characterization of statistical and block copolymers containing alpha-lipoic acid (LA) using reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The controlled copolymerization of LA and vinyl monomers allows for the synthesis of copolymers with predictable molecular weights and low molar-mass dispersities. The presence of lipoic acid diads in the resulting copolymers, which include disulfide bonds, enables efficient degradation when exposed to mild reducing agents.

Summary: The efficient synthesis of Ce6 dianhydride using acetic anhydride as both dehydrating agent and reagent is reported. The reaction of the dianhydride produces mixtures of mono- and di-amide derivatives, which are difficult to separate but offer advantages over traditional methods. This method avoids the challenge of removing unreacted Ce6 and unwanted by-products arising from carbodiimides.

Summary: A new catalytic route has been developed for the coupling of epoxides and CO2 to produce polymerizable six-membered bicyclic carbonates. By utilizing cyclic epoxides with a beta-positioned OH group, structurally diverse bicyclic cyclic carbonates can be obtained with good yields and high selectivity. The difference in reactivity between syn- and anti-configured epoxy alcohols is the key to achieve chemo-selectivity, with the anti-isomer leading to the formation of six-membered ring carbonates in the presence of a binary Al-III aminotriphenolate complex/DIPEA catalyst.

Summary: By starting from nitroarenes and using hydrosilylation conditions with a well-defined N-heterocyclic carbene iron(0) catalyst, aniline derivatives were successfully produced in moderate to high yields. Furthermore, a selective synthesis of cyclic amines such as pyrrolidines, piperidines, and azepanes was achieved from levulinic acid, 1,5- and 1,6-keto acids, respectively, with isolated yields up to 69% under visible light irradiation and thermal conditions.

Summary: The reaction between Ru complex 1 and thymine acetic acid (THAcH) unexpectedly gives rise to macrocyclic dimer 4 and doubly coordinated species 5. By considering the energetics calculated by DFT, two possible reaction paths were proposed. The stable symmetric 14-membered binuclear macrocycle 4 is formed through self-aggregation, whereas species 2 achieves additional stabilization through k(2)(N,O) thymine heteroleptic side-chelation.
