As a pyrimidine analog with potent and sustained antiviral activity against hepatitis B virus, clevudine has been known to have no effect on mitochondrial structure, DNA content, or function. There is little information on the side effects of clevudine, which has not been approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B outside of South Korea. We report here two cases of chronic hepatitis B patients who experienced mitochondrial myopathy after clevudine medication. These cases raise concerns about the safety profile of clevudine for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.

Biliary Self-Expandable Metal Stent Could Be Recommended as a First Treatment Modality for Immediate Refractory Post-Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Bleeding

Sun Young Moon, Jun Heo, Min Kyu Jung, Chang Min Cho

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of temporary self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) and angioembolization for refractory immediate ERCP-related bleeding. The results showed that temporary SEMS and angioembolization had similar success rates in hemostasis, but the angioembolization group required more blood transfusions.

Endoscopic hemostasis using an over-the-scope clip for massive bleeding after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy removal: a case report

Sun Young Moon, Min Kyu Jung, Jun Heo

Summary: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a common method for long-term enteral nutrition. The over-the-scope clip system is a new device used for hemostasis and fistula closure. In this case, the over-the-scope clip device was used to achieve hemostasis and fistula closure for persistent bleeding around the PEG tube.

Deep Learning-Based Four-Region Lung Segmentation in Chest Radiography for COVID-19 Diagnosis

Young-Gon Kim, Kyungsang Kim, Dufan Wu, Hui Ren, Won Young Tak, Soo Young Park, Yu Rim Lee, Min Kyu Kang, Jung Gil Park, Byung Seok Kim, Woo Jin Chung, Mannudeep K. Kalra, Quanzheng Li

Summary: Imaging plays an important role in assessing the severity of COVID-19 pneumonia. This paper proposes a fully automated framework that utilizes deep learning models to assist in quantifying the regional pulmonary opacities of COVID-19 pneumonia. The results show a correlation between the proposed method and the radiographic assessment conducted by physicians.

Gastrointestinal bleeding risk of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants versus warfarin in general and after polypectomy: a population-based study with propensity score matching analysis

Jong Yop Pae, Eun Soo Kim, Sung Kook Kim, Min Kyu Jung, Jun Heo, Jang Hoon Lee, Min Ae Park

Summary: This study compared the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) for non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) and warfarin. The results showed that NOACs patients had a lower risk of overall GIB than warfarin patients, but a higher risk of post-polypectomy GIB. Among NOACs, apixaban had the lowest risk of GIB.

Summary: Researchers have developed an innovative self-supervised learning algorithm that improves the differentiation of malignant and benign lesions, leading to increased accuracy in computer-assisted pancreatic cancer diagnosis. By utilizing a pseudo-lesion segmentation self-supervised learning model, the performance of convolutional neural network-based and transformer-based deep learning models was significantly enhanced. The study also found that self-supervised learning can improve the performance and robustness of the model on unseen and small datasets.

Comparison Study between ERCP and PTBD for Recurrent Choledocholithiasis in Patients Following Gastrectomy

O. Seong Kweon, Jun Heo, Min Kyu Jung

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the recurrence rate of choledocholithiasis and identify risk factors for recurrent choledocholithiasis in patients following gastrectomy. The study found that the recurrence rate of choledocholithiasis was 14.5%, and the stone removal modality, no use of balloon sphincteroplasty, and the presence of periampullary diverticulum were significant risk factors for recurrent choledocholithiasis. Therefore, the study recommends using ERCP with active use of balloon sphincteroplasty to decrease recurrent CBD stones following gastrectomy.
