Summary: Two new stilbenoids, named stemobenoids A (1) and B (2), were obtained from the roots of Stemona tuberosa, along with three known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were determined through extensive spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited potent quinone reductase inducing activity in Hepa 1c1c7 cells.

Summary: The first total syntheses of the Stemona alkaloid dehydrostenine A and dehydrostenine B have been completed. Two independent Bronsted-acid-mediated intramolecular Michael additions were used to construct the tetracyclic dehydrostenine core. Revisions of the structures originally assigned to dehydrostenines A and B are proposed based on synthetic studies and literature analysis.

Summary: A chemical investigation on Stemona tuberosa Lour. resulted in the isolation of a previously undescribed furfural derivative and twenty-five known compounds. Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis. This study uncovers diverse constituents in the water decoction of S. tuberosa, which can be used for quality control and discrimination of Stemona plants.

Summary: Stemonae Radix, a widely used traditional Chinese medicine, has a wide range of pharmacological effects and contains over 170 compounds isolated from its three official species. However, pharmacological studies often focus on extracts rather than specific compounds, making it difficult to identify the major active ingredients and establish a connection between chemical constituents and pharmacological activities. Further experiments are needed to deepen the understanding of the development and clinical use of Stemonae Radix.

Summary: The study focused on the assembly and annotation of the complete chloroplast genome of Stemona tuberosa, a perennial herb commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. The genome was characterized by a quadripartite structure, with specific lengths and regions identified. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the close relationship between S. tuberosa and other related species in the Stemonaceae family.

Summary: A new strategy was used to construct the common, key tricyclic core of stemona alkaloids parvistemonine and parvistemoline, setting three contiguous stereogenic centers using Carreira's asymmetric Ir/amine-catalyzed allylation and Ellman's sulfinamide chiral auxiliary. The designed furan ring acted as a precursor of the butyrolactone while establishing significant chirality.

Summary: A new Stemona alkaloid glycoside derivative was isolated and identified from the ethanolic extract of Stemona curtisii Hook.f., with the structure elucidated using NMR and MS experiments. One alkaloid showed strong larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti, while another exhibited cytotoxicity against MCF-7 and KB cells. The quantitative analysis of the active compounds in the crude extracts was also conducted using HPLC.

Summary: The study identified new antibiotic compounds from endophytic fungi in Edelweiss, including two new alkaloids and a novel compound. It was found that the antibiotic activity observed was primarily due to emestrin, a previously unknown epidithiodioxopiperazine. This highlights the potential for drug discovery from endophytic fungi.
