Summary: This study describes the development and validation of a new self-administered questionnaire called the Osteoarthritis Symptom Inventory Scale (OASIS), specifically designed to evaluate different dimensions of osteoarthritis (OA) pain symptoms. The validation process involved determining the questionnaire's factorial structure, analyzing its construct validity, testing its reliability, and evaluating its sensitivity to treatment effects. The final version of OASIS includes 9 items that can discriminate and quantify 3 clinically relevant dimensions of OA pain.

Summary: This study aims to develop a PROM to measure the symptom burden during the perioperative period for abdominal cancer patients. Through a systematic literature review and qualitative patient interviews, relevant health domains were identified. A conceptual framework with 20 health domains was established.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a kidney transplant-specific supplement to the Patient Experience with Treatment and Self-Management (PETS) measure for assessing treatment burden. The survey results showed significant correlations between kidney transplant-specific scales, treatment burden, physical and mental health, and self-efficacy. This supplement may help healthcare providers identify kidney transplant recipients at risk for nonadherence.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate whether symptom subtypes and OSA-specific hypoxic burden are associated with the risk of major adverse CV events in a clinical setting. The results showed that HB and overall nocturnal hypoxemia were the only predictors of MACE, with a stronger association seen in younger patients and women.

Summary: Although medical ethics is essential in dental education, it has not been integrated into the curriculum. This study aimed to develop a questionnaire to identify semester-specific ethical issues for longitudinal ethics modules. After cognitive testing and piloting, a questionnaire with 127 items was used for validation with good internal consistency.

Summary: This study described the development and validation of a novel patient reported outcome measure for symptom burden from long covid, called the Symptom Burden Questionnaire for Long Covid (SBQ-LC). The questionnaire consists of 17 independent scales and has promising psychometric properties. It can be used to evaluate the impact of interventions and inform best practices in clinical management.

Summary: This study investigated the gender specific risk of all-cause mortality associated with a high somatic symptom burden (SSB). The findings showed that increasing SSB is an independent risk factor for mortality in men, but not in women. This indicates critical gender differences in the management of SSB.

Summary: This study reviewed the medical records of 87 patients with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and found that besides muscle weakness, these patients also experienced pain, difficulty sleeping, headaches, and altered mood. Some patients also had complications such as sensorineural hearing loss, cardiac disease, dysphagia, and respiratory insufficiency. Further screening for these systemic manifestations is warranted.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate a patient-reported outcomes (PROs) assessment tool called MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI-CAR) to evaluate symptom burden and daily functioning in patients after CAR T-cell therapy. The tool was generated through literature review, patient interviews, and clinician's review. The validation analysis confirmed the acceptability of the final 10-item MDASI-CAR module, which exhibited high internal consistency and excellent known-group validity. Criterion validity was also demonstrated through significant correlations with other relevant measures. The MDASI-CAR module is a reliable and valid tool for monitoring symptom burden in patients with hematological malignancies after CAR T-cell therapy, but further validation with a longitudinal design is needed.
