Summary: The study aimed to track the changes in voice quality for two years after radiotherapy (RT) for early glottic cancer. The results showed that only a minority of patients had a normal voice two years post-RT, mainly due to post-RT changes in the larynx, such as fibrosis and scarring of the vocal folds.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal trajectories for patient-reported voice quality after treatment for early-stage glottic cancer and identify associated risk factors. The results showed that different treatment modalities resulted in varying degrees of improvement in voice quality, but no significant differences were found in long-term outcomes.

Summary: Similar prognoses were observed in patients with verrucous carcinoma (VC) treated with radiation and surgery. VC can be treated using radiation.

Summary: Skin damage is a common and important toxicity during and after radiation therapy. This study found associations between skin erythema and obesity, type of surgery, axillary dissection, taxane-based chemotherapy, and the irradiation technique. Risk factors for fibrosis included age at diagnosis, obesity, tobacco, and the use of a boost. The use of IMRT technique decreased the occurrence of skin erythema.

Summary: This study aims to develop an individualized dynamic prediction model for patient-reported voice quality. The study found that the model can provide individualized predictions at every time point and can be used throughout the follow-up period. Increasing the number of measurements during prediction improves predictive performance, while adding more clinical and demographic variables does not provide better predictions.

Summary: This systematic review critically evaluates studies on patient and clinician preferences for treating early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The findings suggest that patients and clinicians both prefer a collaborative role in treatment decisions. Most patients do not recall having a choice between surgery and stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), resulting in minimal decisional conflict.

Summary: The molecular classification of endometrial cancer has predictive value for response to radiotherapy in early-stage endometrioid EC. Different molecular subtypes have different responses to adjuvant therapy, and radiotherapy may not be necessary for certain molecular subtypes.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in voice quality of pigs before and after laryngeal surgery, identifying four parameters related to post-operative voice quality changes out of 17 acoustic parameters measured. Two parameters, 50% spectral energy quartile and Flux, were recommended for assessing post-surgical voice quality in pigs.

Summary: Pre-operative 5-fraction breast radiotherapy followed by immediate breast-sparing surgery and sentinel node procedure was found to be feasible in early-stage breast cancer patients. However, wound problems were frequent and required intervention. Performing the sentinel node procedure before pre-operative radiotherapy is important for accurate staging.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to define the optimal strategy for treating loco-regionally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx (LSCC). The results showed that primary surgery had superior locoregional control compared to primary radiotherapy with cisplatin, but there was no significant difference in progression-free survival or overall survival. The ideal patient selection criteria for the treatment of loco-regionally advanced LSCC still need to be defined.

Summary: This study investigated the association between DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) expression and local control in early-stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) patients treated with radiotherapy. The results showed that high expression of DNMT1 was associated with worse local control. Patients with higher T-stage and positive N-status also had worse local control.

Summary: This study aims to compare the impact of surgery and (chemo)radiotherapy on survival and quality of life in patients with early and advanced laryngeal cancer, and explore the influence of clinical features on oncological, functional, and quality of life outcomes. The study plans to recruit 150 patients from 8 centers over a 3-year period and collect data at baseline, 6, 12, and 24 months. Multiple logistic regression analysis will be used for data analysis. The results will be published in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals and presented at scientific meetings.
