Studies on the toxicity profiling of Cathinones

Cathinones are a group of psychoactive substances that are chemically similar to amphetamines. Synthetic cathinones are derivatives of the naturally occurring cathinone and have gained popularity in the recreational drug market since the end of the 2000s. The total consumption of cathinones around the world has increased significantly, with worldwide seizures of related compounds by drug enforcement authorities also increasing. However, there is a low study of cathinone molecules, and their physiochemical properties, environmental fate properties, and human health toxicity properties are not well understood. Cathinones can cause myocardial infarction, rhabdomyolysis, renal failure, and liver failure. The presence of cathinone in water bodies and water systems is also a concern.
