Systems Transformation: How It Happens and How to Evaluate It

Transforming systems toward greater sustainability and equity is the challenge of our times. Insights from systems analysis and complexity understandings combined with patterns of historical transformations offer insights to generate a theory of transformation. A substantial body of research, evaluation, and knowledge points to interlocking networks as the pathway toward transformation. Evaluation enters this arena by monitoring the alignment of networks including catalytic interactions, gaps, and opportunities to accelerate transformational momentum. Evaluation criteria for transformation are different from traditional project criteria. Universal criteria of sustainability and equity make evaluation part of the transformational process: visionary evaluation contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future world.
