As scholarly publishing has increased in size and scope we’ve begun to see issues arise with editorial capacity, even for large publishers. For researchers this can cause uncertainty regarding appropriate publishing strategies. Journal selection becomes a topic about more than just impact factor, readership, and scope. Authors must understand the proper vetting of a journal’s editorial policies to mitigate the risk of associating with predatory or poor quality journals. Here, we will focus on whether authors need to consider changes to their publishing strategies and the best approach to vetting a journal’s editorial robustness.
