海报摘要

This study at Dow International Dental College explored the link between dry socket, contraceptive methods, and menstrual cycle timing in 193 female patients undergoing tooth extractions. Notably, a 13.9% prevalence of dry socket was found, with a significant positive association between oral contraceptive use and an increased risk of dry socket. A quarter of participants using oral contraceptives underwent extractions during the first 22 days of their menstrual cycle. The study suggests avoiding surgical procedures on non-menopausal women during menstrual days 1-22 may reduce dry socket rates. This underscores the importance of considering oral contraceptive impact on dry socket in dental extractions. The conclusion emphasizes incorporating contraceptive discussions in informed consent talks and highlights the need for further research to comprehensively understand the relationship between contraceptive use and alveolar osteitis risk.
