海报摘要
- Maltreated children have a higher prevalence of attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A twin study showed that, while maltreatment has an effect on ADHD symptom load, the presence of ADHD is largely explaned by genetic factors. The overlap between ADHD and maltreatment experiences could be explained by temperamental traits that share a genetic basis with ADHD. One of these traits is negatve emotionality. In a longitudinal data set, we were able to show that infant negative emotionality indeed predicts not only ADHD symptoms, but also maltreatment load. The association between ADHD symptoms and maltreatment load is bi-directional. Our results could help identify families in need for additional support.
