I submitted under the old system, and it was still very efficient. It took one week for review and one month for feedback on the manuscript. After six months of revision, it was accepted upon resubmission.

How long does it take to assign an editor now?

qwertyuiopasd 2023-04-04

How often does the editor change?

cacacacacacaca20003333 2023-03-05

eLife is now under the control of editors, so the time in the hands of editors is becoming longer. Once an editor sends a manuscript for review, it essentially means that the article has been accepted.

May I ask what is the status of yours now, mine has been editing there for quite a while.

The email has a link, you can click on it to see.

中国药科大学李派掌门人 2023-02-13

Does anyone know how long it takes to edit here?

中国药科大学李派掌门人 2023-02-13

I am also in the editor.

大地行者 2023-02-12

Also, I would like to ask, how does the first author check the submission status?

大地行者 2023-02-12

May I ask when the first submission will be reviewed? I have been waiting for about half a month and it is still in the editor assessment.

cacacacacacaca20003333 2023-01-15

The review process is quite fast, with both the editors and reviewers being highly professional professors in the same field. The initial review provided many professional suggestions, and after six months of revisions, the paper was accepted directly. eLife is highly influential in Europe.

I specifically checked your past comments on this account, and I am amazed. You write comments everywhere, demeaning various journals. Please take this matter seriously and delete such remarks. I have published articles in this journal and found the review process to be innovative, with diligent reviewers and editors. The overall quality of articles on eLife is generally very good.

zoop 2022-03-02

This magazine itself doesn't care about the impact factor, and now the impact factor is becoming less and less valuable as a reference. There are plenty of low-quality journals with impact factors ranging from 20 to 30. Eventually, the impact factor will be replaced by other indicators.

zoop 2022-03-02

The majority of the articles have high quality, although some of them are just spam. So, how can you say that PNAS is flooded with spam as well?

zoop 2022-03-02

It can't be said like that. There are also many hydrology papers in PNAS. The overall level of this journal is still very high, not inferior to PNAS.

lucahigh 2022-02-24

At first, this magazine was decent, but the articles now are getting worse and worse. They lack analysis and innovation, they only need to be solid, and they can be published without verification. The submissions are good, but I don't have high hopes for this magazine in the future.

The difficulty of submitting to eLife journal cannot be reflected by its impact factor. eLife is highly recognized overseas, and experts in the field know the value of its published papers. However, in China where the impact factor is highly valued, it may be a disadvantage.

The most commendable aspect is the professionalism of the peer review process. Firstly, the editors of eLife are relatively the most professional, and they are experts in their respective fields. Secondly, they focus on whether the article is truly meaningful, rather than just following trends. Therefore, they accept some niche but valuable innovative research. These types of articles often have lower citation rates compared to popular articles, resulting in a relatively lower impact factor.

Thirdly, eLife adopts the most professional form of peer review. Normally, the editorial opinions provided by journals are a direct summary of several reviewers' opinions, often resulting in contradictory opinions. For example, one reviewer may say that your work is very meaningful, while another reviewer may say that your research has no value. However, the peer review opinions of eLife are written by the editors themselves after unifying the opinions of different reviewers. They raise pertinent questions and provide very fair opinions without contradictory statements. The editors will provide questions that must be answered and questions that can be chosen to answer. It is said that during the summary process, the editors communicate collectively or individually with the reviewers.

Fourthly, the entire peer review process, including questions and responses, is open and transparent. Readers can see it in the system, avoiding unnecessary biases.

May I ask: Is the Business registration or Corporate number required for paying the layout fee the same as the domestic unified tax registration number (three-in-one)?

猎鹰 2022-01-26

Overall, the experience was good. After submitting the manuscript, it took one week to send it for external review and two weeks to receive the results. It took us three months to complete the experiment and the revised manuscript went through the same process, but it was accepted in two weeks. Immediately after acceptance, we had to pay the layout fee, but we were required to provide our school's Business registration or Corporate number, which we are unsure if it is the domestic "three-in-one" tax number. We are currently inquiring about this. During the vacation, we were unable to reach the department by phone.

The manuscript review was completed on time within one month, followed by two months of revisions, and then accepted on time within another month. The next day, I was online and highly efficient. The entire review process and data were open without any reservation, making it the most comfortable submission experience. Elife magazine itself does not pursue impact factors, which puts domestic submissions at a disadvantage, but it is still relatively recognized within the field.

This journal has been successfully flooded by the big shots and turned into a garbage collection site. If it weren't for the influence of these big shots, it wouldn't be surprising if the impact factor dropped below 5, considering that everyone is accustomed to citing their articles.

Dr. Hedgehog 2021-06-29

This magazine is really slow. It took over a year from submission to formal acceptance. I have urged the editors many times, but they said they couldn't reach the reviewers... Fortunately, it was finally accepted! Although the impact factor has been declining for years, I'm just exhausted and don't want to go back and forth anymore.

Bee_worker 2021-03-20

Hello, the review process usually takes about 15 days. eLife has an internal review process where the editorial board will discuss and evaluate your article. During this process, we received some comments, and after making the necessary revisions, we will submit it for review again.

少帝康康 2021-03-13

Hello, may I ask how long it takes for the submitted check email?

蒋灵笔 2021-03-01

Hello, the author. I posted a preprint on biorix a month ago, and it still shows "with reviewer" on elife. Should I send a reminder? What does this mean? Is it still under external review? Thank you for your response. I'm eagerly waiting for graduation and feeling very anxious.

蒋灵笔 2021-03-01

Hello OP, I posted a preprint on biorix a month ago. It's been a month now, and elife still displays "with reviewer." Do I need to remind them to review it? What does this mean? Is it still under external review? Thank you for your response. I'm anxiously waiting for graduation.

xhong 2021-01-15

Sorry, it should be to provide "some" (not "one") necessary feedback and suggestions for modification.

xhong 2021-01-15

Three reviewers provide particularly pertinent opinions. An important point is that the reviewers and editors will discuss and provide necessary feedback and revision suggestions. Other opinions may also be sent back, but it is not necessary to reply to all of them. The revised manuscript will be sent back in about 20 days, and acceptance will take approximately two weeks. Overall, it was the best submission experience. This journal seems to be declining, especially with the decreasing impact factor each year. However, it still has a high level of recognition within the industry. Our research group believes that in the field of neuroscience, eLife would be better than the Journal of Neuroscience but slightly worse than Brain.
