The editor-in-chief is alright, but some of the deputy editors are really incompetent. They make blind comments without even understanding the content of the articles.

The submission experience of JGR:SE is simply excellent, and every process is quite efficient! Here is an approximate timeline for reference:

2022.12.09 - Submitted
2022.12.27 - Under Review
2023.01.30 - Waiting for Revision (Major)
2023.03.30 - Preliminary Manuscript Data Submitted (Revised)
2023.05.17 - Waiting for Revision (Minor)
2023.06.02 - Decision Made (Accepted)

It took about six months from start to finish. During the major revision, although the reviewers expressed very positive evaluations of the manuscript, they still provided many comments. The original article was only 26 pages long, but the comments on the revised version amounted to nearly 35 pages. The reviewers' comments covered everything from small language and formatting issues to major model flaws. Overall, the manuscript quality has greatly improved, truly worthy of NI (presumably referring to the journal's reputation).

Furthermore, the submission process was not delayed. It is a pity that it was classified as a second-tier journal by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The quality and submission experience of JGR surpasses some first-tier journals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where it takes three months from submission to review.

Our college has its own internal standards for evaluating awards and assessments for outstanding students, as well as for assessment of young teachers. We no longer pay attention to the Chinese Academy of Sciences' regional classification table, as it is a self-created and unrealistic thing. Everyone involved in scientific research knows the ranking of journals such as JGR:SE, JGR:ES, Tectonics, and GRL. Similarly, the ranking of journals like Earth Science Frontiers and Journal of Paleogeography is well known to every researcher.

No APC fee, unless you are Open Access!

多孔介质 2022-09-19

No page fees, but the journals under AGU should charge article processing charges (APC).

May I ask if there is a fee for page layout after being hired? Thank you.

Very fortunately, JGR was selected in the end. Two reviewers provided 140 suggestions for modification. After three rounds of overall revisions, the quality of the article has greatly improved. It is indeed worthy of being a Nature Index journal!

Learn from the original poster and keep up the good work in writing papers at this level.

This journal is a natural index journal, although the impact factor is a bit low. The reviewers are quite professional and directly rejected my nonsensical paper. :)

Why is there no latest upgraded version of partition?

noisylion 2022-02-04

The new partition has returned to Zone 2 again, but the Chinese Academy of Sciences is really "fair". This time, they have also downgraded GRL to Zone 2. Now, there is no need to worry about submitting journals to AGU anymore, because there isn't even a Zone 1 left. Now, apart from NS and its sub-journals, the only Zone 1 journal that I am exempted from in my field is EPSL. In the future, I will directly submit my new papers to EPSL without hesitation. The Chinese Academy of Sciences really makes my life easier, haha.

The top-notch journal in the field of earth sciences, Nature Index. Although its impact factor is not very high, it does not affect its awesome attributes. Hopefully, good luck!

Not... Isn't this NI? Isn't it one of the five districts of Earth NI? How did it end up in District 2? Even Gondwana is in District 1. What's the deal with this latest zoning?
