Thin-walled structures comprises an important and growing proportion of engineering construction with areas of application becoming increasingly diverse, ranging from aircraft, bridges, ships and oil rigs to storage vessels, industrial buildings and warehouses.

Many factors, including cost and weight economy, new materials and processes and the growth of powerful methods of analysis have contributed to this growth, and led to the need for a journal which concentrates specifically on structures in which problems arise due to the thinness of the walls. This field includes cold– formed sections, plate and shell structures, reinforced plastics structures and aluminium structures, and is of importance in many branches of engineering.

The primary criterion for consideration of papers in Thin–Walled Structures is that they must be concerned with thin–walled structures or the basic problems inherent in thin–walled structures. Provided this criterion is satisfied no restriction is placed on the type of construction, material or field of application. Papers on theory, experiment, design, etc., are published and it is expected that many papers will contain aspects of all three.

I checked the list of recently published articles in this journal and it is not difficult to find that lightweighting of automobiles has become one of the key focuses of this journal. At the same time, automobile bodies are typical thin-walled structures, which are within the scope of this journal. Automobile thin-walled structures are an important branch of the thin-walled structure family, and have always been a hot and frontier research topic in the academic and industrial fields. The research progress of automobile thin-walled structures can promote the advancement of automobile lightweighting technology and have broad application prospects. The original poster can submit high-quality manuscripts to this journal and help establish it as an important journal in the field of automobiles. If this journal can be developed into an important journal in the automotive field, it can not only compensate for the lack of important journals in the field of automotive structures, but also provide a platform for the publication of achievements for automobile body researchers/engineers/researchers, and also support the industry's progress.

The journal has made significant progress in terms of review efficiency, editor's attitude and impartiality, professionalism of review comments, quality and quantity of published articles, impact factor, influence, and reputation. We hope to return to the top journals in the field soon. The journal's disciplinary classification has expanded from civil engineering to mechanical engineering, mechanics, and civil engineering.
