Hello! I am a contributor and just had an article accepted. It took exactly 6 months from submission to acceptance due to the lockdown during the pandemic. In the EM system, there is an option to send an email where you can apply for an extension using a template letter. You can state the reason and the desired extension period. After about 3 days, I logged into the EM system and found that the editor had extended the deadline by one and a half months. I wish you all the best in having your submission accepted and published.
